For Clark: SuperAnna!

Sep 18, 2007 12:22

Anna leads Clark through a handy-dandy Nexus portal into her living room.

The front door to her apartment is looking distinctly unwell.

In the way where the doorknob is lying crumpled on the floor, dented with what appear to be finger-marks.

Yeah. Clark's seen it before.

"Do you have a screwdriver?" He picks up the offending knob, melts it enough so as to be pliable and then starts remolding with his hands.

"Gimme a sec," she says absently.

One very literal second later, Anna's standing behind him looking mildly surprised and holding the requested item, somewhat gingerly.

"I have got to learn how not to do that," she says, shaking her head.

"You should feel a sort of pull in your chest right before you start. When you feel that, stop," he advises, and then blows on the knob to cool it down and set the proper shape.

"Thanks." Screwdriver now in hand, he crouches down by the door and starts putting the handle back in place.

"Huh," she says, frowning.

And of course to test this theory she's going to be walking in interrupted circles for a bit.

"...Well, that's simple enough," she says after about a minute of alternating speeds.

He nods, watching her with a sort of bemusement. "They all are, once you get the hang of them."

"Have I mentioned this is weird?" she asks, rubbing her forehead. "This is weird."

"Yeah, I know," he says softly, finishing up with the door.

"You should really be grateful you'll be able to recharge yourself afterward. Human bodies don't take well to having these kinds of abilities."

"Yeah, I..."

She frowns.

Holds out a hand; studies it; flexes her fingers and watches them move, then concentrates and observes dispassionately as they burn and renew.

"...'m not human anymore," she says softly. "The LOL didn't just give me your abilities, it gave me your species. That must be why it isn't affected when I torch."

Anna is not, on the whole, certain of how to feel about this.

Clark just goes utterly still.

"Can it do that?"

"Looks like."

No, Anna really has no idea what sort of implications this might have.

"But you're still... dead, right?" Clark isn't entirely certain which answer to be more hopeful for.

"...Clark, I'm not ever going to be not dead. Life is sort of a one-time deal."

She frowns.

"Okay, not that I exactly thought I'd ever be not human, but it's... different."

Just don't ask her how it is different.

"And you're talking to a guy who's died twice already."

Clark sighs.

"Yeah, it's different. Just don't ask me to explain how because I don't exactly know myself."

"Yeah, you did, but..." She shakes her head. "Fuck, cheri, I'm not a philosopher and I don't have a clue what's going on. I don't think I'm alive. I c'n still torch, which satisfies the 'still dead' condition s'far as I'm concerned."

Yes, she's slurring unduly. This happens when she's confused and under stress.

"Hey." Clark crosses the room and pulls her into a tight hug. "It'll go away eventually and everything will be the way it should be. You just have to learn to deal with it in the meantime."

She hugs back.

"Yeah."

Privately, she's wondering. Not all Nexus effects are reversible. The poisonous flowers would have killed her permanently, had she been alive.

"Merci beaucoup, mon cher," she murmurs.
