Today was the first day of the spring break: two weeks of no classes. I have to go to work but can leave at lunchtime. I think we can start quite late too, as I came at the usual 7:40 this morning but most teachers came an hour or more later. The problem there is that last time I decided to arrive at 8:30, there was an important staff meeting introducing the new principal and teachers that I was late for - ack. Also on one day of the Spring break last year I didn't know that we had a staff photo shoot, and was the only man in the picture without a suit jacket. Argh! This time I've made note of which days are important.

I feel guilty if I'm not doing something resembling work or study in the office, so today I started studying but after half a minute my pacer broke! So annoying. I wasted a good 20 mins trying to fix it but will just buy a new one. Tried continnuing with a regular pencil but it was really ugly and difficult to erase, so I gave up and decided to finish the Japanese book I was reading. However it would be a bit dodgy to just be reading a novel at my desk, so I placed it over an open notebook, propped it up against a dictionary to hide the content from suspicious eyes, and held a pencil in my right hand. I even took notes occasionally of interesting words and expressions, so I guess it's not a bad way to read after all.

Finished the book, so will take in a new one tomorrow. Got some good ones at Book-Off in Osaka (three books for 330 yen ... now that's the right price.)

Photos of me playing the koto in a performance last Saturday.
