Recently came back from a long-overdue 5-day trip to .... Okinawa!

Weather was crummy but we made do and had a memorable time with lots of laughs and lots of photos!

Here are mine:

Okinawa!

Cooked some delicious bass trout on Friday. Grilled in lemon juice, sesame seeds, a dash of salt and a sprinkling of wasabi seasoning flakes, served on a bed of green leaves of some description, sided with baked potatos covered in a cheap and delicious salad mayonnaise by the name of Rainbow Dressing.

Saturday went out to see a brief but enjoyable rock concert where the lead singer jumped off the stage halfway through a song then a few minutes later sauntered back in as though he'd forgotten about the show. Had dinner with Ashley at a scrumptious new ramen shop in the underground mall, enjoyed a refreshing but bone-chilling mango smoothie with him and Chigusa, met up with Matsuno Sara and Alex for drinks at Flankeys (2 smooth Kaluha on ice), Global (passionfruit liquer with soda and fresh lime) and Sala (cheapest beer I could order). Got mud on my suede jacket while riding home. I never wear it and when I do.. it rains. Oh well, it needed to go to the dry cleaners anyway.

Today I slept the soundest I have in ages. Was about to head out to the International Fair in the afternoon but saw The Karate Kid on TV, presumably in memory of Mr Miyagi (who strangely was from Okinawa). Kept watching that - great movie, and clearly a big influence on the perceptions of Japan of many of us westerneres raised in the 80s. Afterwards went to the tail-end of the International Fair. Talked at length with some guy who wants to start a Japanese restuarant in Australia or New Zealand. He didn't seem to have decided anything.. what type of shop to have, where to live, or even what kind of visa to get. Not sure why he was so keen for my opinion on all of this. But he kept talking in Japanese so I rolled with it for some rare conversation practice.

Work tomorrow. No classes as students have tests, but I have some elementary lessons to prepare and tests to help mark so I'll be keeping busy with any luck.
