To Los Angeles to cure Spike and thus help Buffy and Dawn.

I had made a breakthrough with Spike's trigger. It had all come from something that Willow had stated about mind manipulation, and it occurred to me that there wasn't necessarily a physical catalyst inside of Spike's brain, like there was with the chip in his head placed there by the Government which kept Spike from harming anything or one that ( Read more... )

Okay, watching Willow kiss Kennedy was giving me too much enjoyment. I so needed to get me a woman, but the pickings were so slim out there.

I mean, okay, sure there was a house full of beautiful young girls, but that was just the thing, they were barely older then Dawn, and that would not only look bad, or make me look bad, but it would actually be bad.

Dawn...

She was in trouble and it was time to start focusing on her and Buffy and this spell and the danger in Los Angeles as opposed to the feeble offerings in the Alexander Harris bachelor of the year in Sunnydale contest.

I loaded my sword into Giles' trunk, knowing that I would need it, with the eternal Los Angeles darkness and all, but how much would I need?

Willow sat up front with Giles while I scrunched in the back of his BMW. Why couldn't we just take my car?

He drove away, revving the engine. Okay, that was why. His car was a lot faster then mine.

"Here's a hypothetical for you guys. Los Angeles is all black, and vamps could be everywhere. What do we do if we aren't even able to get to Buffy, Dawn and Spike? Sure, we fight vamps and have ben for a long time, but the majority of that time was with a vampire slayer with us, or a robot with powers...What do we do if we are surrounded?"

I had driven away and all that there...there was right now was the interminable feeling that no matter how fervently I pressed my right foot on the accelerator, that we wouldn't get there on time.

Thinking of Buffy being in danger, again, where her life could hang in the balance once more, left my stomach with a rather hollow feeling. I had failed her before and didn't want to behold that possibility again, but Xander had just spoken of my most ardent fears.

"I believe that what you have just said, Xander, is entirely a possibility. We have stakes, axes and holy water and still, it might not be enough..."

It was time to bring up something that I didn't want to, but I had told her was always a possibility several months ago.

"It could very well be that we'll have to rely on your magicks more then once in Los Angeles, Willow. Is this something that you are ready to ascertain? Buffy and Dawn's futures are in the balance. I can't...can't think of a better reason for you to explore your powers again..."

I looked her in the eyes, hoping that she could control it, that we could be her anchors if it came to that.

"Do you think I'm ready?"

I had no idea. I really wasn't Jonesing for a return to dark Willow. I liked my Willow just the way that she was now.

"Yeah, I'm ready. As long as your both with me."

I still didn't know, but scrunched up in the backseat, I managed to keep my thoughts in check and from escaping my vocal chords, which had to be a record for me.

When I was ready to give my opinion, it was going to be an obvious notion, as Giles would say, and I believed that I was now ready to give that opinion.

"Willow, none of us want you to lose control. But, if Buffy and Dawn need you to get medieval on some vampires, or potentially death could be at all of our doors, then it is what has to be done..."

I was going to go on to more. I was going to go to the Tara place but decided against it. I didn't want her thinking of that minutes before turning dark. That would be worse. This was probably already bad.

Twice in a minute I didn't say what was on my mind. I would have been proud of myself if this entire situation didn't totally suck.

I nodded at her reassuringly. I had been there after her many visits to the coven in Devon. I was quite sure that she had managed the power that was within her, which is precisely why I had told her that she musn't shy completely away from her powers.

Still, the rememberance of her raising Bufy from the dead, and then her threat to me coming to pass when I had called her an amateur, invariably sprang to mind. It became so much worse after that and facilitating a return of her dark side was unquestionably frightful.

"Willow, none of us want you to lose control. But, if Buffy and Dawn need you to get medieval on some vampires, or potentially death could be at all of our doors, then it is what has to be done..."

I believe in you, Willow. Xander, amazingly, is correct in this instance. It might not come to that, but you are our strongest weapon if we happen to be accosted before we get to Buffy, Dawn and Spike. You musn't hesitate, and you musn't show mercy to vampires attempting to kill us in wide numbers. If you do, then we are as good as dead and are of no use to Buffy. It's certain to be the literal definition of hell on the streets of Los Angeles, currently, and I want to make sure that you are prepared to show your powers, while not forgetting that we love you, in the process.."

In the meantime, I drove faster then I had ever driven before, rushing towards certain strife.

"I'll do whatever I have to."

I heard Willow, but what struck me more was how dark it was out here. It was night, anyway, and the darknes here was just deep. It was hard to see, the headlights giving me a little comfort.

That comfort faded whn I looked around. I believed that there were people out and about and I only believed that because I could hear screams off in the distance. Suddenly, Giles having a convertible wasn't the coolest thing in the world.

Everywhere, there were demons. Los Angeles had literally become a demon playground and there was no other way to say. "Giles, you think that you can flip the convertible top up, now. I mean, it's not exactly like we're feeling the hot sun against us right now, unfortunately, and I'm not exactly Jonesing for a vampire to dive on me while I sit scrunched in your backseat."

Worse then all of the chaos, was the fact that this city was huge. Buffy and Dawn could be in trouble anywhere, and from Angelus and probably Spike at this point.

"I've been thinking about it. We beat back the Turr-a-whatever in Sunnydale. The First has to be using Spike against Buffy at this point. Of course he would, and probably right when they ran into Angelus too."

"I'll do whatever I have to."

I believed that to be true and it provided a lot of comfort, for in these environs, we would ned the Willow that we all knew existed...the Willow that was one of the strongest beings in the world.

I couldn't believe the chaos that the city had descended into. Los Angeles was traditionally a decadent place, anyway, and right now, it was the worst of all places. Demons filled the streets.

"Giles, you think that you can flip the convertible top up, now. I mean, it's not exactly like we're feeling the hot sun against us right now, unfortunately, and I'm not exactly Jonesing for a vampire to dive on me while I sit scrunched in your backseat."

I had the exact thought, as I depressed the button and turned to avoid hitting a demon, receiving a look from Willow in the process.

"I probably should have hit him...shouldn't I have?"

I didn't look to see the nods of approval at my statement because I hung a left into an alley and saw that vampire was trying to attack a young boy. This time, I didn't swerve, but instead, pressed the accelerator, hitting the demon just as it turned to look at me. I only s,lowed down when coming to the next intersection.

"I've been thinking about it. We beat back the Turr-a-whatever in Sunnydale. The First has to be using Spike against Buffy at this point. Of course he would, and probably right when they ran into Angelus too."

"I believe that we were all thinking the very same thing, Xander..."

In the distance, I was sure that I could see the unmistakable radioactive hairstyle of a vampire that all of us knew and that most of us loathed.

"Is that Spike?"

When Buffy emrged from the other side of the car, we knew that we had, at least for the moment, safely reached our reasons for being here.
