Thankfully, it's the real Buffy...

It didn't seem like this was my purpose. Bloody get a soul only to have the First and greatest evil of all time using me as his or her sodding puppet, depending on who the First chose to use as it's bloody sightline ( Read more... )

"But what?"

Wasn't any delicate way to tell her this, as we went out into the night, and believe me, not what I wanted to do. She had just saved me after all of the bad that I had done in the pastweeks, which meant more to me then even she could know and talking about Angel was the last thing that I wanted to talk about.

"What it is? The First? More uber vamps? What?!"

Looked at the niblet. If anything, her face had always been the face that made me believe that I was a protector, even when I didn't have a soul. Needed to see her eyes, even if she wa sa little mad at me, before I broke the news about Angel to Buffy.

I stopped, just outside of the cave, savoring the night air, but knowing that south of here, things weren't so at peace. I faced her, my hands on her shoulders. "Buffy, things are safe here, but we have to gom because things aren't safe everywhere. Don't know if you have seen the news, and I certainly haven't, but the First was bragging, yammering on about things, mixing it in with the bits of torture, and let it be known that Los Angeles has permanent darkness, a vampire free for all..."

Didn't finish. There was more sadness to add to that melody. She was relatively calm, but that wouldn't last with what i was about to tell her. Took my hands off of her shoulder for a bit, found that standing on my own was completely attainable and once again looked at Dawn for confidence, before stroking her hair and putting my hands back on Buffy's shoulders.

"Buffy, it's Angel. His soul has left the building and if it's true, and without him to defend people, we're going to have a lot of dead innocent people down there. We have to go and go bloody yesterday. We can call Willow from the road, but having the feeling that time is of the prime essence at the moment."

I knew it, I just knew it. Bad news, just what I needed to hear right now because I didn't already have enough bad going on right here in Sunnydale I needed L.A.'s bad too and mix that with Angel being bad it was all just very, bad. I really didn't need this right now but unfortunately I didn't have a choice. Spike was right, all those vamps, including Angel, running around freely 24/7, we were definitely need there more then here at the moment.

I looked at Dawn and sighed. There wasn't any time, she'd have to go with us. I'm going to need her to be on her game thought because there's no way I can watch over her every single minute and save the world. Well, save L.A. but I guess that was as close to 'the world' as anything.

"Alright. Dawn, your coming with. Just try not to get killed ok. I'll call Will, she and the rest of them can hold down the fort while we're gone." I paused, thought, then looked at Spike. "We need a car. A very fast one."

We didn't have time to waste trying to catch a bus and I knew Spike would have no problem "borrowing" a car from somewhere. I hated the idea of it but what choice did I have. Angelus was back and the first thing he would do was go after his own people which only meant we had even less time then I thought.

Don't get me wrong, I completely understood the seriousness of the situation but can you believe it?! ME! Going to L.A. to help save Angel. Talk about the right place at the right time, or, maybe that was the wrong place at the right time I don't know. What I did know was that Buffy had decided to take me with them and I was determined not to let her down while we were there. Not that Buffy had been doing that insane older sister protectiveness thing with me quite as much lately but still, she was the slayer and my big sister, I really didn't wanna disappoint her.

"How are we going to get Angel's soul back?" I asked as we started to leave. "I mean, I thought Willow was the only one who knew how to do that."

Maybe this was one of those we'll worry about it when we get there sort of things but, if we couldn't help him wouldn't we have to kill him? I mean, I know he's Buffy's ex and all but she still cared about him. Why else would she go running off all the time whenever he needed her? Would she really kill him, again, if she had to? I looked at Spike, he would. He would kill Angel I just knew it but what would that do to him and Buffy. It was all very confusing if you ask me.

"We need a car. A very fast one."

I smirked. I sorta needed some clothes, but didn't mind walking down in the buff, so to speak. I mean, what did I care. The bruises, not sexy, okay, but Buffy wasn't exactly free of them. Then again, wasn't looking at the bruises on her chest, inflicted by the uber-nasty. Wouldn't have been opposed to that, but those impulses were bit. The old me would have been so direct. Not the style of the day for Spike.

"How are we going to get Angel's soul back?"

That was a good question. If I really wanted to get his soul back. Then again, knew that Buffy wouldn't be listening if I made any such suggestion.

"I mean, I thought Willow was the only one who knew how to do that."

"Right. Well, no time for that, dawn. Believe me, saw Angel for two decades running around without a soul. I know him. It won't be pretty, and especially after being the big hero for so long. We saw it when he became Angelus in Sunnydale. He'll hunt his friends, and he'll kill. Los Angeles, last I checked, a few more people then Sunnydale."

We quickened the pace and I tore the remnants of my ripped shirt off. Didn't mean to strip in front of Dawn, but hey, wasn't going to walk around in ripped duds.

We moved towards the center of town and I told Dawn..."Don't look and forget that you even know what I'm about to do."

Hot little BMW M5. Was a pity to break the front window to open the door. Got in as the alarm triggered and quickly went to work on the wiring under the steering wheel.

Unlocked all of the doors as the car started up after a brief spark. Still had the spark. "Okay, ladies, get in. Los Angeles is waiting. Was just glad that the bloody alarm shut off. "Room for four in here. We can find Angelus, put him down like a dog, tie him up and bring him back to Sunnydale for some serious re-ensouling."

My eye's fell on Spike's battered and beaten upper body as he tossed the shirt scraps aside. I felt so bad for him. How could I let the First do this? I should have been there sooner I thought again as I got in the car. It was just one vamp, one scary and unbelievably strong vamp, but still just one. God, this whole thing really sucked. The First evil here, Angelus in L.A, what next? A magical nexus guarded by witches is about to open up somewhere in San Fransciso and spew forth the boogie man? Somehow that wouldn't surprise me.

"Let's just get there. We'll figure out what to do with Angel when we find him."

If we find him. Normally I'd just say follow the bodies but this was different. Who knows what we'll find when we get to L.A. People will be confused and trying to go about their daily lives only they can't because there is no more day in daily. Not to mention all the vampire attacks, they wont even understand what's happening to them.

I was actually scared. Scared for Wesley and the rest of Angels crew. Scared of what would happen if we did find Angel. If we couldn't, put him down as Spike had put it, then I'd have no choice but to kill him. I really wasn't sure if I could do that again.

..."Don't look and forget that you even know what I'm about to do."

Oh please I thought, crossing my arms and watching Spike anyway. Like I really cared that he was about to hot wire a car. A really nice car too. I wasn't some fragile little girl anymore. I knew more things about life and the world then most girls my age, or older for that matter. Stealing cars was definitely no big. Besides, it was for a good cause, that had to account for something right?

I got in the back seat and smiled. Again, I know bad things are happening but just how cool was this ride?!

"Let's just get there. We'll figure out what to do with Angel when we find him."

Poor Buffy. First she has to save Spike from the uber-vamp, now she has to go save Angel from, well, himself. She never gets a break. Note to self: Self, when this is all over, take big sister on a really long, demon free, vacation. Noted, check. She definitely deserved it.

Got on the 405 and sped along at one-hundred and twenty miles per hour. Blew right by a statie on the way and instead of slowing down, picked the spped up. Bugger wouldn't catch us anyway. This Bmw did about one-hundred and eighty miles per bloody hour No police car did that. Besides, by the time that he got up to full speed, I'd be over a mile ahead of him.

Swerved into the left to pass a slowpoke doing less then half of the speed that I was doing. Guided the pedal further down and found that I was doing one-hundred and forty-five, and the engine was still purring. Yeah, was getting RPMS way up, but this car could handle it and it handled like a dream, too.

Still.

"Ladies, if you already haven't, buckle up. Playing cat and mouse with the Staties now, and will be weaving in and out of trafic, but worry not. I'll get us there in one piece. This is the only way to drive."

Had to hit the breaks a little further down, as we got closer to Los Angeles, slowing down to under ninety miles an hour while a slowpoke passed a real turtle in the right lane. If that kept happening, then the Statie might just catch us, not to mention, that he was probably on the horn to his mates up ahead. Didn't matter, though. Cops weren't stopping us even if they pulled us over, the buggers.

Got the engine purring again, climaxing at over one-hundred and fity miles an hour. Probably wasn't in the best of shape to racecar drive at the moment, but I was buoyed by two things. Driving at night like this with Buffy and Dawn. In another life, this would be a dream, and the second, Angel was Angelus and I was the good guy. I got to put him down, now. Couldn't wait for that.
