"we're all holding hearts" or "spades"

i often times find myself relating things to poker. take, for example, relationships. i think it best for me to explain the general concept of poker and allow you, the reader, to make the connections. In poker, you and your opponent will start off even with one another. you will of course remain even until one of you makes bets and wins a hand. every hand that you and your opponent are in on can have one of three results; you win, you lose, you split. the goal of the game being to win the most hands and eventually end up with more than you started with at the end. some pots are small, some pots are big, and sometimes a player will move all in, risking everything they have. on occasion, both players may have the same hand, thus splitting the pot and neither player loses or gains anything. you really have to play more than just the cards in poker. your hand is certainly an important part, and 50% of the game is the cards, but you really have to get a good feel for reading the other players and knowing just what they hold in their hand. to get the most from the game you have to know when your hand will win and when your hand will lose. you can, of course, bluff, and make the player believe that you have the best hand. to do this sucessfully youll have to know when the other player has a hand weak enough to fold. youll have to, obviously, ignore the fact that to win a game of poker, the other player has to have nothing left. unless of course youre a chauvinistic pig stuck in the early 1900s.

id say im a little down.
