People like the movies because they represent the best possible set of choices to render a certain idea or feeling. Writers master the art of crafting together the perfect blend of positive and negative choices that lead to perfect endings. They are statistical improbabilities that are more captivating than they are realistic. Then again, that is the point I suppose; to be pulled into a world and a story that is so fantastic it, by necessity, requires a stretch of the imagination. People see themselves in extraordinary situations. I kind of wish I was a Robert Redford, a Humphrey Bogart, or a James Dean.
Beyond that I'd like to finish out this cliche of a blog by saying that I wish I had love like the movies. When I was 17 I got wrapped up in an affair that transcended spaces, ages, social standings, and social norms. It was mesmerizing and captivating, a truly momentous love. Since then, I feel like I've viewed all my other relationships as somewhat lackluster and almost sad in their inability to hold a candle to the bright glowing heart of my teenage self.
I want to live again in my movie-life.
