Last night was a blast! Not only did I get to hang out with Rich and Jessica, but we enjoyed a nice dinner at Puglia’s (Thanks
caffeinediary for taking me there! I loved it and so did they!) and got to see Lisa Loeb and Dweezil Zappa (and their band) perform at the Bowery Ballroom. It was an excellent show; they complement each other well and are obviously talented musicians. I don’t quite remember what Dweezil wore, but Lisa wore a black skin-tight long sleeved shirt with a black/red/yellow checkered skirt and black leotards; her hair was pulled back in a ponytail-she was very cute and sexy!
Copied from someone on the lisa loeb forum, here’s the setlist:
I Control The Sun (sounds like the long-lost Cake and Pie track)
Do You Sleep? (from Tails)
You Don't Know Me (introduced as the theme song to from their Food Network show, Dweezil and Lisa) (from Cake & Pie)
Everyday (from Cake & Pie)
Diamonds (new song... about being drunk at a party)
Take Me Back (from Underdog EP)
I Do (from Firecracker)
Probably (new song)-- I loved this one!
Taffy (from Tails)-- this one kicks major ass both from the album and live! Anyone who says that she can’t rock out doesn’t know what he/she is missing!
Hand Me Downs (new song)
For Dweezil (a freaking maniac on the guitar):
Eruption
Frank Zappa Medley
Wiggy Shuffle (with Lisa on electric)
Encore:
Jake (solo acoustic)-- It’s not normally a favorite of mine, but it was refreshing to see her do this one. I’m glad that the audience wasn’t too rude during such a quiet song.
Stairway to Heaven-- After Dweezil’s set, which seemed a bit too long for me (but I still can appreciate that talent!), this was a nice redeeming quality and just a wonderful cover.
Stay-- I think that Lisa is tired of playing the one song that she got known for, I would be, but it is such a good song and I’m glad to hear it. I just wish she had played different songs that less people knew of: Sandalwood (which a lot of people near me were requesting), Underdog, Truthfully, etc.
Nevertheless, I had a wonderful time and the three of us got to meet them afterwards. I had previously met Lisa and Dweezil a few years ago (read about that
here) at Tower Records. I mentioned that to them and Lisa did look like she remembered because I had had her sign this piece of paper for my friend, Jessica, who was able to finally see her and meet her last night. Since I have the major studio albums from Lisa (including her children’s album), I got a poster signed. I don’t have my scanned, but so you can see what it looks like:
