Happy Two-Year Anniversary!

Boston was fun, but it isn't the type of city that you can capture its feeling with pictures. I took a few handfuls of pictures here anyway ...

We couldn't check in until 3:00pm, so we wandered around in the Marketplace instead.

The crowd. I love no flash.

Jay with one of the famous Cows:

North Market:

Quincy Market:

South Market didn't come out well. So you get me instead, in front of a greenhouse:

I've never seen as cool-looking 7-11 as the ones in Boston:

A random reflective building:

Jay said the clocktower was cool:

We had lunch here. I had fish and chips! Yup!

So, after walking around to various spots in the Marketplace, where I bought a shirt that says "Got lobster?" *teehee*, Ani Difranco's Reprieve, and Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season Five DVD, we decide to head back to our hotel...

Where squeaky squeaky and sleepy sleepy happened, but not in any one order:

View from the window:

We head for dinner at Boston Beer Works. On the way back, I took these subway pics:

"Can we sneak in?"
Maybe tomorrow.

I tried to be artsy but capture the moon too.

Everyone loves Pareee!

August 13, 2006

We woke up kinda late. We walked through Chinatown, but it was hard to get a picture of that because it didn't really stick out like NYC's or San Fran's. We did have lunch there, and then we proceeded to walk through some of the Boston Common Public Garden.

Swan boats.

"Did you get a picture of the ducks?" "Those are everywhere, Jay." "Still. Get a picture of the ducks."

The original Cheers, what inspired the TV show.

Where everyone knows your name.

We were gonna get a drink, but it was too damn crowded.

A walk down Newbury Street. Only impressing things were these old churches.

We walked all across Newbury Street to Brookline Avenue.
"Can we get in yet?!"

Instead we go to the Fenway Beer Works to watch the balance of the game and have some drinks.

On our way to Club Passim, Jay took one more of me. We have a running gag that I soak up subway maps.

That night, we went to the well-known folky venue, Club Passim located in Cambridge, MA. Okay, maybe it's not as well-known as say, CBGB's or The Bitter End, but there's a back history of why I'm familiar with Club Passim. Back in like '97 when I first started going online, I became friends with someone who turned me onto the indie artist world, such as with Ani Difranco and Sarah McLachlan (at least this was right before Surfacing and she got major radioplay). He mentioned to me that he worked at Club Passim at night and that this is where his true love rested. This guy is the same exact guy who manages Club Passim now. And, while Jay and I were there to see Mutlu, I debated all night if I should say anything to this guy who was my online friend nearly 10 years ago. I knew it was him because of the same name he gave me years ago, and because he looked like the same person from the pic I had of him 10 years ago, just about 15 pounds more.

I wanted to say "hi" to him, but I didn't. Just when I was about to, I saw him take that night's money from the drawers to some back room. And, while I was talking it up with Mutlu (what? You've never heard of him? Go to http://www.myspace.com/mutlusounds and listen to "Caramel"), I was still looking for said guy to pop up, but no luck. Part of the big deal of wanting to official meet him is because he really helped to shape the kind of music I ended up enjoying and listening to. I wanted to tell him that.

Well, Jay said he definitely wanted to go back to Boston. In fact, we're looking at the first weekend of October, so yeah.

General reflection:
I really liked the atmosphere of Boston. I loved the weather. I loved the people. I loved their subway system. Boston, I can see, is like the San Fran on the East Coast. I definitely want to go back.
