Work and Sirsy

Dang, I’ve had a really busy week. My boss had this really great idea for her small company, so I’ve been doing some research at home. I got nearly 78 hours for the past two weeks. My paycheck was pretty nice! :)

Last night, Jay and I went to see Sirsy acoustic, which basically is just Melanie and Rich. They were freaking awesome! I think if I'd seen them just like that at first, I'd still be an avid fan. Whoa, that sounds weird, but I mean that as a compliment. Sometimes you can hear the true meaning or heart of a song if it's stripped down. Jay even said that he thought the duo was more of a showcase of talent than the band. That slide guitar thing that Rich did for "Spark" was hella cool. Sirsy soo needs a BYOB of just the two of them :) I've only had dreams of collaborating with someone (like that) on a creative level. Oh, and it was soo cool that they did "Fine" followed by "Dry." I always hear it that way in my head when I listen to Ruby anyway.

Here’s what they played (capped songs are originals, lowercase songs are covers):

First set:
DELICIOUS
CRYBABY
LIE TO ME
wonderwall (Oasis)
YOU
BY JULY
one (U2)
THIS TIME
SPARK
WISHLESS

Second set:
PLEASE LET ME BE
WHENEVER YOU'RE AROUND
PET
landslide (Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks)
KISS ME HERE
IOU
SOME KIND OF WINTER (they said “we haven't played this one in a long time and it felt goooooood to play it!”)
napoleon (yes, the very one by Ani Difranco. They honored her soo well!)
FINE
DRY
PAPER MOON
walkin' on sunshine (Katrina and the Waves)
UNCOMFORTABLE

What I love most about their covers is that it usually takes awhile for me to even tell what cover it is exactly.

You devoted three readers of mine, I CAN’T tell you enough how talented Sirsy is. I know every time I see them I say this, but it’s true. They are my favorite female-fronted band, and my favorite act that comes to NYC. The Weepies may have more of a fan base, but I actually like Sirsy more; and, it’s not because Melanie and I are likethis. haha :)

And, Sirsy’s new album, Ruby is available by I-tunes. There’s NO reason any of you internet music people can’t listen to it.

Okay, because I guarantee you that you will like it, I promise to those of you who are presently on my f’list (that means I list you as a friend, not the other way around) that I will either buy you a BYOB or one of their studio CDs for Christmas. I shit you not. So, if you’re interested, leave a comment here.

Is this the first time you’re actually reading me and you’re interested by default? Check out Sirsy’s website for more info. If you’ve got broadband, I highly recommend checking out this vid.

What are you waiting for?

music - sirsy, music - indies, music - grrls
