You know, these entries are going to go unnoticed since no one's around (hardly) on a holiday weekend. *le sigh*
I don't care. There are just a couple political issues I need to get out there.
The ONE Campaign Are we all really being duped/lied to, or does it really matter?
ascii_70_85 brings up a good point in this
entry in that the Live 8/ONE campaign

{shakes-head} Don't you know ... crack is bad for you {facetiously?}.
Also, I have it on good authority mr.askee's just an evil greedy bastard -- you must be wrong.
“The problem is, we have no control over that money, the politicians do. THEY can give up the 1%, we can't.
Therefore, it's "their" money.”
This argument is scary! The Gov't is or is supposed to be 'We the People ...' -- we own it. It's our money. It's supposed to be used for things which benefit all the citizens. One can argue about what that is all day (I have an EXTREMELY narrow definition of what that is), but I don't think helping Africa exactly falls in that realm.
Also, I've played this game before.
**If this is to end global poverty, how come the campaign isn't a global effort? How come it's just focused on getting Bush/our government into action?
We have more money than most everyone else, therefore perhaps the implication is we are supposed to harbor much of the burden for such things ... because.
**How come our country seems to care about other countries...
Power and world influence.
Is that really too selfish to ask for?
I think this is a very strange question... Of course I would rather people have their money to do with as they please... help Africa, help the homeless, buy a jet-ski.
Though asking if something is too selfish is soliciting an opinion of others. They all have their opinions, just as I have mine. Though, I can't tell what a jet-ski might be worth to someone, or maybe someone believe Africa 'needs' it more. I know the world press speaks as if the US is full of callous greedy bastards. According some of them we should give all our money away to the poor, and go from country to country apologizing for whatever our country has done good or ill. I think the money belongs to the people, give it back to them, let them decide, even if they choose 'wrong'. That's okay if it's really their money, which it is.
Thanks.
