I've been back from San Fran since Sunday night, but I'm still writing everything up. Those of who you were wanting pics; I have a TON, so be patient and stay tuned :)
In the meantime . . .
Last night, 04/20/05, really was a dream come true. I feel like I've been a Moby fan for a long time (since 2001), so I'd been looking forward to last night for A WHILE.
The set opened up with "My Weakness" and then kicked into "Find My Baby." I'm awful at remembering orders of the songs, but I can tell you what he did play:
From Play:
Honey
Find My Baby
Porcelain
South Side
Bodyrock
Natural Blues
Only "We Are All Made of Stars" and "Extreme Ways" were played from 18.
Most of the songs from Hotel. "Very" was such the highlight. Laura Dawn's voice was phenomenal, even if she wasn't feeling too well.
He also did his well-known dance songs: "Go," "Feelin' It" (I think that's the name), and his encore "Feelin' So Real," which was absolutely moving. Literally. The floor was shaking with everyone dancing and jumping!
I never thought of "Natural Blues" in such a sexy way. The way they slowed it down was incredibly sexy sounding. Loved that. "Natural Blues" is one of my favorite Moby songs, but that could possibly be because it was the first song I ever heard by him.
Moby even did his covers of Mission of Burma's "That's When I Reach for My Revolver" and Lou Reed's "Walk On The Wild Side." The latter was his first encore song.
I loved his little stories in between some of the songs. His confession of being a geek, his first NYC concert experiences (both in performing and attending) . . .
I've watched his DVDs and the live performances on there, but it doesn't really hit you the kind of passionate and energetic performer until you're there in person.
I've met Moby a couple times actually, which you can read about
here and
here, so this show was just the icing on the cake.
I don't idolize performers or anything, but . . .
Seeing him perform for the first time with this Webster Hall audience was one of the most spiritual experiences I've had in quite some time.
