Life, Incorporated.

Haven’t posted in a while, thought I’d remedy that. Life has been pretty life-shaped recently, with some variance. Stress about money, about work, about life. Wonderful friends, amazing nights and weekends, a great fiancé. It’s a mish-mash of ups and downs, I guess.

  • Went to Maine last weekend, had an amazing time. Wes and I carpooled with betweenthebliss; she had work on Friday night, so she showed up on our doorstep at 10:45pm, and then the three of us hit the road. We arrived at something like 2am, I collapsed onto the airmattress, and Wes and Em stayed up until, oh, FIVE A.M. talking.

  • Saturday was pancake time (om nom nom blueberries!), then girlie time; the guys wandered off to play Frisbee golf with a backpack full of beer. Lush hair stuff, foot scrubs, Doctor Who on the television... Sheer fun. The boys returned and we all hung out and cooked a beast of a dinner. Steak, gnocchi (om nom), asparagus, spaghetti squash, and three (3!) different dips (mushroom & onion, pesto, and wasabi-habenero-ginger). Then Emily made the most ridiculous dessert EVER (omgwhippedcream) and we collapsed onto couches for Rock Band and Boom Blox. There was wine, Cheezits, vegetarian pate (mmm, LENTILS), and lots of good times. We crashed at 2am again for a fabulous night’s sleep (seriously, rinlage, where did you get those air mattresses?).

  • Sunday was horrific, since we had to leave. We had breakfast (baaaaagels and eggs and turkey bacon OM NOM), packed up, and hit the road. We got back into Boston at around 4 and promptly collapsed in a heap on the couch.

  • Monday I decided to call in heapish for work and stayed home with the boy instead. We’d talked about having a planned day off together, but this was a little more spontaneous. He wasn’t feeling all that well, either, so it was nice to just curl up on the couch and make him tea all day. I had one fun excursion to go food shopping; I got a Zipcar (an Outback, oooo!), and it was really fun. I love trying out new cars via Zipcar; it feels like your own, there’s no dealer breathing down your neck, and you get to do Normal Things in it. It’s the best way to test drive any car, I tell you.

  • The other thrilling thing I did on Monday was my TAXES. It was pretty easy; so much so that I’m always nervous that I missed something. My taxes are horrendously straightforward, but it’s still nerve-wracking. BUT, the benefit of doing my taxes is, as always, the return. And this year? Over $1,200! HALLELUJAH. That’s going straight into wedding savings.

  • I mentioned this on Twitter, but I seriously am sick of being tired all the time. Last night I got over eight hours of sleep and was still tired when I got up. I don’t expect to be able to get by on four hours of sleep or something ridiculous (ahem, lheena), but I don’t think I need ten hours of sleep every night! Ridiculous. ...That reminds me, I need to call my doctor again, for a referral. I’m really done with having these chronic symptoms ignored, and I think a specialist might be able to shed a little more light on the situation. Hmm. Stay tuned.

  • I got my ID card registered for access to the Tufts gym, so now I just need to get the cojones up to go and figure out the layout of everything and start hitting the treadmill. Wes and I have a friend who is in grad school at Tufts, and she said she’d take me around, give me a quick tour. I think having a gym buddy will be helpful-it will minimize the stress and give me a swift kick in the arse to keep going. Oy.

  • Wedding planning is going zoomingly; it’s just under six months away! The Big Project right now is getting out the Save the Dates; we have the postcards and the stamps ready to go, and now I’m waiting on the last few addresses to send them out (and crap, I need to finalize the website BEFORE those go out, dang). Besides that, we’ve got random things to do- pinning down a hotel block nearby, starting counseling with our minister, etc. There’s not a lot to do just now, thank goodness. I like to keep the crazy to a dull roar whenever possible.

  • Fandom participation is nonexistent. I’m happily unengaged on the internet- I only do whatever I have time and attention for (which is, admittedly, minimal). With everything else (work, friends, life), it’s good to know that that’s not a responsibility that demands attention, and will be a big relief at the end of the summer when stuff for the wedding piles up a bit more. I’m still following the shows I love (Supernatural, Bones, How I Met Your Mother & Big Bang Theory), and keep getting sucked into new ones (GAHH, Doctor Who, maybe), but I keep my flail to a few select folks. It’s a mellow time in fandom, for me, and it’s nice.

  • Socially, things are off their rocker. For Wes and me, our social structure has based mostly around our joint friends from high school ("The Guys"). Between his time at Merrimack and being at Brandeis now, Wes has made even MORE friends (as he does, the social butterfly). However, since starting at Brandeis, he has even less time for people, and our social schedule has been upended; he’s trying to balance who he sees, but some people we’re seeing less and less. It’s an interesting shift in our lives that I was almost expecting. It’s more emotionally loaded than I had expected, and we’ll see how things shake out. I’m making friends and building relationships and getting to know people, and Wes is trying to balance a rough schedule, plus old friends AND new friends. Tough. Definitely different. But we’ve got each other, so it’s still... good. I’m optimistic.

  • Sunday is Easter. It's also Opening Day for Baseball, with the Red Sox vs. the Yankees in Fenway Park. Hallelujah.
So, that’s life, in a nutshell! Now back to watching the clock tick down until 5. Tick. Tick. Tick. *headdesk*
