Holidaze.

In about five minutes, I did all my Christmas shopping. It will be whisked to my doorway in the next 3-4 days (I paid an extra $7 to make sure they'd get here at a decent time; waiting nervously for presents is Not Good), and the gifts are original, personal, and just right. I love the internet.

I've decided to forego holiday cards this year. For whatever reason, as the posts started popping up, I chose not to prod folks into sending them to me, and I am somehow uninterested in mailing them out myself, as well. Odd, for someone who adores mail.

It's a mellow Christmas this year; my folks got their Christmas present a few weeks ago, and named her appropriately: Holly, their new Shih-Tzu puppy. She is adorable, sweet, and still definitely a puppy. She LOVES Wes, and plays with him all the time. My parents are sweet, but I feel it is up to Wes and I (but mostly Wes, since she worships him) to instill in her a certain dog-ness. My dad loves having her sit on his lap quietly, and my mom likes snuggling up to her; Wes makes her fetch, play, and do all things dog-like.

Between the $1500 dog (NOT KIDDING. TOTALLY NOT KIDDING) and the brand new 50" television, it's going to be a subtle year for presents. My mom gave me my big present last night; a check to help me pay for my first oil bill (ow. ow. owww.) and I am eternally, eternally greatful. With presents (however small), the first oil delivery, and an eminent trip to California, I can do with the financial boost.

Also, since there is a New! Puppy! in the house, my parents are foregoing a Christmas tree, for the first time in my memory. They might put up lights on one of our ficus trees, but nothing pine-ey or with a star on top. I'm okay with it, so far, but we'll see if it breaks my heart come Christmas Eve.

So much to do, so little time to squeeze it all in. Oh, holidays. It's exhausting, but there is one good thing: I cannot wait for the eleven days off in a row. x_x

happy: holiday, happy: christmas, family
