The Facts.
Christmas Eve was pretty much the usual. Andy, Wes and I got burritos for lunch (it isn't the holidays if you haven't eaten at Anna's. We went there the day before Thanksgiving, too.), and DAMN were they tasty. And huge. God bless the boys at Anna's, for sure. Wes hit the road to be with his folks and we got all gussied up for church. I had to candlelight AGAIN (I swear, this is NINE YEARS in a ROW), even though it's technically supposed to be high school kids who do this. And I'm GRADUATED from COLLEGE, Y'ALL. It was a wee under-organized. Yep. Nearly started crying during the second service, go figure, and shmoozed with everyone I haven't seen in years. Came home, watched the news, passed out halfway through A Child's Christmas in Wales, and suffered through my dad reading Twas the Night Before Christmas to his twenty-five and twenty-two year old children. Good god, the man needs grandkids.
The usual Christmas Morning, with mom up early and the rest of us trying to squeeze out a couple more hours before leaping out of bed. We usually have a relatively calm and quiet Christmas morning, so that was actually pretty up to par.
Then, and here's the thing: Wes' parents came over for Christmas dinner. It was seven of us, and food for, oh, EIGHTY. We had crackers, cheese, a MASSIVE platter of shrimp cocktail, pita and hummus, and drinks to start. THEN, for dinner, there were two steaks, a spinach pie, mashed potatoes, roasted red potatoes, green beans, and gravy to go over all of it. Deeeeelicious. For dessert: a blueberry smoosh, since the pie topping melted into the pie, and my mom's Swedish Cream, which was OUTSTANDING.
The Loot.
GIFTS RECEIVED:
-A gorgeous cashmere sweater from my mom, which feels like absolute heaven.
-Calendars. Always calendars.
-A sudoku book packed with tons of puzzles! Yay!!
-Socks. My mom is insane.
-ALL THREE major Charlie Brown holiday specials (Great Pumpkin, Thanksgiving, and Christmas).
-
This really awesome cookbook, since my mom thinks I will STARVE when I move out.
-Another Terry Pratchett book.
-Gift certificates to Starbucks, iTunes (LEGAL DOWNLOADS, WOOHOO!), and a local pizza shop I'm addicted to.
-a tiny stuffed elephant that makes me squee girlishly, and a small silver necklace with an elephant pendant (that was, mind you, intended for small children and came in a slightly fuzzy, very PINK, elephant-shaped box).
-my cousin from Cali bought us all tee shirts. Mine proclaims that I am a Varsity Mud Wrestling Champ, so don't you doubt it.
-my brother WON CHRISTMAS by getting me a Bruschi jersey. A Teddy Bruschi JERSEY. *GLEEEE* Only unfortunate thing? It's a Youth size SMALL. I may be an adult small, but the Twins (*points at chest for added clarity*) have something to say about fitting into that article of clothing. So we're gonna exchange it.
-Wes bought me Walk the Line on DVD and Super Mario for my DS (since the only game I have is Mario Kart).
GIFTS GIVEN:
-My parents were quite pleasantly surprised with the boxed set of M*A*S*H we bought them: all eleven seasons, PLUS the original movie. It's awesome.
-Jon loved Boston Legal (duh) and immediately went downstairs to watch the first few episodes. An easy, but awesome gift. This is the first year in recent memory that Jon's gift was actually EASY to find. Go figure.
-Wes loved the chess set I bought him, and it actually was much nicer than even I expected, so go me.
-...he was also showered with gifts from my parents, all of which made him some level of speechless. They gave him a couple sweaters, the style guide for Chemistry, an IOU for all his books for next semester (that's like, $500 worth of textbooks), and $400 toward a weekend getaway for him and myself.
...Every year we claim it's gonna get smaller. That NEXT YEAR, we're TOTALLY not doing all this materialistic mumbo jumbo. And every year we can't stop ourselves because "they'll LOVE it." Ahhh, family.
The Deal.
My life, as we know it, is changing drastically. Not that that's a bad thing, but does it have to happen during the HOLIDAYS?!

Wednesday: workkkk, then packing.
Thursday: WORKKK, then packing.
