Job Searching
Well, Prudential officially fell through. They said I was going to have a second interview, and the woman never called me, so I emailed Peter (who I had my first interview with). He replied with "oh, sorry, we filled that position. If you want me to give you a recommendation to another boring insurance company, I can do that!" Pfft. SO FUCKING RUDE. They could have at the very least sent me an email.
Now on to Tufts: Apparently the intern or office assistant or whatever in HR absolutely sucks, and the appointment for last Monday was cancelled (since he scheduled it with the wrong woman). BUT the woman who I was supposed to meet with called, and now I've got an appointment with her for NEXT Monday. The only thing is, it's in a new building, which means I'll have to find it before the appointment. But the woman sounded really nice, and I'm looking forward to talking with her. I really, really hope this goes well. I think it's a job I could be really good at, one I could really enjoy, and an environment that seems really awesome. *crosses fingers*
Room Renovations
WHEW. I've been ridiculously productive in my room. We cleaned off BOTH my desks in about a day, got rid of the big desk, and decided to keep the built-in desk. Mom and I went and bought color samples for paint (pink, blue and purple, how GIRLY) and a can of primer. BOTH coats of primer are done, and today we're off to buy paint. We decided on pink, of all colors (the purple was UGLY, the blue is too cold, and a reddish rust-ey pink will do just fine).
On Monday, instead of my appointment (since it was cancelled), Mom and I went to IKEA. The glorious, massive, and mind-blowing IKEA. It was.... phenomenal. The top floor is all showrooms FILLED with stuff from IKEA. Like, there'll be a bedroom or office or living room and everything in the room will be from IKEA. Bookshelves, beds, bedding, mattress, desk, clocks, lighting, rugs, cabinets, plates.... You want me to go on?! It's insane. Each tag attached to the item has information about where to find it: either the Marketplace or the Warehouse (oh, yes). Then you go downstairs, first through the Marketplace. It's basically rooms upon rooms with stacks and boxes filled with small items (pillows, bedding, lamps). It's like Costco for home furniture and decorations.
Then, you turn a corner, and there is the Warehouse. O.M.F.G. It was insane. Just rows of metal bins filled with brown cardboard boxes with furniture in it. You load 'em onto a flatbed cart and then checkout. INSANE. We got a duvet cover for my bed (gorgeous red, it'll go really well with the 'pink'), frames and posters, lamps, a pillow for Wes... then two bedside tables and three bookshelves for my room. Yesterday Mom and I built the bedside tables from IKEA, and they look AMAZING. It wasn't super-difficult, and they look great.
So now we have to paint the room (two coats!) and then paint the details (my desk, shelves, mirror, and closet doors are all getting painted white). After that, we need to build the bookshelves, move furniture around, put an ethernet cord through the wall (zomgINTERNETS), mount lamps and my mirror, and decorate. On top of all that, we're going to go through ALL my stuff from school with a fine-tooth comb. LOTS of stuff is going into storage (books I don't need NOW, apartment/dorm stuff, etc), and we'll be throwing a lot of crap out.
-----
We've made some AMAZING progress on the room in the past week or so, and it's awesome. I've got another interview for Tufts, I'm looking into other jobs to apply for, and once all this unpacking crap is done, I can work for Fran until I find a job. I keep getting worried about being bored or not finding a job, but I need to remind myself that Fran is WAITING for me to get off my ass and come to her about starting work. Once we're done actually moving me into the room, I'll have plenty of time to work with her, which will give me some walking around money, thank god.
On top of that, Wes has started working, so he's gone for over twelve hours a day. He leaves at 6:30 or 7 and doesn't get back until 7 or 8 at night, mainly because he and his crew have an hour commute to the job site (where they have to be at 8am). He's the Job Site Manager for his paint crew, and they're all hard workers. Yesterday after they were done with work, they went for a five mile walk, ending in a two mile run. They're INSANE. He's tired and sore when he gets home, covered in paint and already getting sunburnt, but he seems pleased. He's got more control over his work, and he's outside, being productive. If the crew is any good once they get going, they can probably make some dencent money, too. But he is gone for a lot of the day, and going from seeing him ALL the time to seeing him NONE of the time is starting to get old. Before, I wanted him to be working so I could get work done cleaning my room. Now it's just lonely. He also needs to go to bed wicked early, so there isn't a lot of time for us to be together when he gets home at night. But I'm glad he's working-- he really likes being productive.
Well, that seems to be it. I miss TR and the intarwebs, but with Wes working crazy hours, I have enough downtime to catch at least *some* time online, like last night. Since he's gone ALL day, it isn't that hard to get some work done on the room AND have time to relax in front of the computer.
hOkay, folks. I need to go buy paint and begin work on the trim in my room. Ciao.
