Late September Already

Well, it's fall. Today is the first day that really feels like this is not a fluke, and it's actually cooling down. I was still able to walk to church at 6 this morning in shirtsleeves, but the oppressive heat/humidity is gone from the air. Alleluia!

I say that all the more because we have officially moved back into town, and our new place does not have AC. We're living in a second-floor apartment right in the heart of Easton, about four blocks from church (which is why I walked this morning). We have also elected to go cable-less, so I'm discovering the brave new world of the digital signal. I love the improved picture, but I don't love that it will just completely drop out. At least with analog, you had the discretion--the basic American freedom--to watch a fuzzy, snowy picture you could barely make out, if you chose to do so. But nooooo, those daggoned liberals took that freedom away with one stroke of the pen. With digital it's either perfect picture or blackness.

The new place is also a little small for us. I love how close it is to everything, and it's been good to get rid of a lot of stuff we don't need (although I still see much of that stuff lying around), but...honestly...I'm still trying to envision exactly what this place will look like once we're fully "unpacked", and right now I just can't see us staying here long term. Enough said on that front.

Church is going surprisingly well. We've started with two worship services, we've hired a separate music director and organist, and both are phenomenal guys. My mom pointed out to me that this means Grace Lutheran Church now has an all-male staff. I replied that maybe this is proof that you pretty much have to pay men to come to church. ***drumroll*** hahahahahaha.

There are glimmers of hope here and there. And the cool of fall is always a good way to change one's perspective, even if it is just a bridge between obnoxiously swampy Maryland summers and gray, soggy (and occasionally containing one or two "snowpocalypses") winters.

End Transmission.
