Thank God for Music

Oct 18, 2009 16:57

After liturgy today I kicked off my shoes and laid down on the cool sidewalk to enjoy the warmth of the sun. With my eyes closed and my own humming to keep me company, I felt happily peaceful and alone despite the people swarming around me. Some ate food, others participated in a book study under the nearby canopy of trees, and the young children played on the lawn.

The choir practiced in our new, yet completely empty building this morning. I stood outside the temple, transfixed and amazed at the stunningly perfect acoustics.

When everyone had gone and my only audience was God himself, I stood alone inside the new building and sang. I chose excerpts from St. James' liturgy which had been set to choral music by Bach -- achingly, hauntingly beautiful music.

Now I'm home, listening to Linkin Park's Leave Out All the Rest (click here to listen) and the rest of the soundtracks from Twilight and New Moon.  (The New Moon soundtrack, by the way, is AMAZING. You can download the MP3 album from Amazon right now for $4.99 -- definitely worth the price!)

I'm glad there is music in my life again. I have been too silent for too long.
