Real ID may die a slow death.  States had until May of this year to comply and implement this federalized national ID system or face losing federal funding, risk stalling out all airport travel to and from their state, and risk citizens being unable to open bank accounts or do any other thing regulated by federal commerce laws.  Several states said F-U to the feds, including Maine, Montana, South Carolina, Oklahoma, and Washington.  I'm glad they made stands, and I hope more states join their ranks.

In any case, it seems that Homeland Security is backing down for the moment, ignoring the laws those states passed which forbade the implementation of Real ID, and turning a blind eye to non-compliance.
