Happy 2009 to all. And a special happy birthday to
periol. Mr. Barnes I hope your birthday goes well.
I don't bet money on sports. Betting is the quickest way to lose money. I had bet my brother that the eagles would make the playoffs and that they would win their first playoff game. I believed rightly, that McNabb would play better after benching and that the Vikings don't believe in the 1-offense, if you have the best player at his position you use him as often as you can. The Vikings have the best running back and in the 4th quarter they didn't play him. One can only laugh at them. (The Giants will beat the Eagles at home, and then the Giants will lose to the panthers who will crush the Cardinals at home. And I only make that prediction because I want the giants to beat the eagles.)
Now I do enjoy a good list and the new year is a great opportunity to create one of those best of lists.
Best Job - Corporate Nap Consultant In days of a recession one should not mock anyone's job one should only marvel and revel in their ability to make money. Professor Sara Mednick of UCSD ran a study that discovered that napping was best way to get more energy. She now gets paid to help people sleep on the job! Is it considered a success if a report that advocates people take naps puts you to sleep?
Best Person - President Elect Barack Obama. Those words just look great together.
Best strategy by an owner - this was a close one, with all of Wall Street up for grabs, the big three automakers, the owner of the Buffalo bills and the owner of the Denver Broncos all deserving of this award, but the winner is the American voter (or rather George W. Bush who appointed the head of the SEC). Allowing people who hate government in government has caused us near destruction of our economy. I warned years ago that Christopher Cox would be a worthless SEC head, and I was right. He was warned a lot about Madoff and about the impending doom of the stock market but he didn't believe the warnings.
I wish you all a good afternoon.
