Infamous

My day started with a phone call, it was a Mr. Butler from BenefitPort(who wanted to be called Mickey) and he wanted to talk to me about the job. He told me that they wanted me to come and interview as soon as possible, so I suggested 2 this afternoon and he agreed. So I got and ate breakfast and prepared for the interview. My preparation involved getting shaving and finding my shoes, which I didn't end up being to do. Luckily I found a paper of my Dad's that fit me well enough.

The drive their took shorter then expected and when I went to park, the parking attendenat yelled at me for parking there. I explained that I was just earlier for my job interview. He talked about how everyone parks in the sports even though they say they are reserved. I empathized with him and then went up to the third floor of a three story building in the commerical section of Englewood.

The company was the entire third floor, with most of its assessts still in boxes and most of the space unused. They guy was nice, and was not wearing a suit. It felt kinda weird being overdressed. After the interview with him he went and got the head of the Customer service Department, Jane I think, to talk about what I would be doing. She and I talked a bit about what they do, but not actually logistically what they do. Maybe she felt that because I was not a lisenced insurance person, I wouldn't understand it?

After we were done talking Mickey and Jane talked in the hall way, and it sounded like she was pleased with me. (I impressed her with my knoweldge of golf, she and everyone in the office loves golf.)

I then went with Mickey to meet the Senior Vice Presidnet and number 2 person in the office, and the best golfer. (This was mentioned several times) He only looked at the first side of my resume and said that he thought I would be bored because insurance is boring. He also said that they used very complicated computer programs and he wondered if I could handle them. I asked him nicely to flip my resume over so he could see that I had worked with computers and customer service in college, he was pleasantly suprised and I think pleased. He then asked me a question I never thought I would get, he asked me if I partied a lot in college. That really caught me off guard.

After meeting him I talked about what the next step would be with Mickey, which will be call early next week about setting up another meeting with the CEO and possibly the job offer.

I left very excited and called my parents, they were very happy for me. I got home and after taking care of something at home I went to the track. When I got there, I took out my new running shoes and went running in them for the first time. The first quarter mile when excellent, but then it went downhill, as my shoes gave me blisters on my heels. The walk back home was quite painful. I felt it would be a good thing to go swimming afterward, but when I got to the pool there was sign that said closed for the day. Oh the humanity. Tomorrow I might be heading to Drew, depending on somethings.

running, job
