Everyone's heard of the Butterfly Effect. Well, this post is a tip of the hat to a good friend I have never met, but would love to meet some day, who has had an extraordinary effect on my life. Such an effect that he deserves recognition for it. His strident postiivity in the face of events most of us would use as an easy excuse to get grumpy and extremely negative raises him above and beyond what one exepcts from the term "friend", especially in this day of internet interactions and thousands of Facebook, MySpace and even LJ friends. He genuinely likes each of the people on his friends list and wants them to know how much he does and how important they are to him. Well, this my chance to return the favor.
I give you the
popfiend Effect.
Over on FB, a friend of mine posted a status update that read "like my status and i will tell YOU what the truth is.." Ever the curious little monkey, I liked it. Tori responded by going to my wall and posting a comment that told what positive truth she knew about me.
It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And a little part of my brain thought, "What should I do with this feeling?" I pondered for all of 30 seconds before I decided to go the route of
popfiend and share the love. To pay it forward electronically, if you will. I posted the same status update on my own wall.
I have gotten eight likes since I did and posted a positive truth about each of them to their walls. The reaction has been unanimously positive. Some of them even decided to spread the love themselves.
That's right, a ripple effect of love and compassion, of truth and positivity. The
popfiend effect. An effect I would have been much less likely to help propagate if I hadn't befriended a good man and a great friend. Who I still want to meet some day. :)
