OOC: Putting together a primer

Oct 03, 2005 14:36

I brought this over here because this is more Cam-centric and I didn't want a debate on my other LJ.

Topic of conversation:

"If an RST was putting together a primer on how to get involved in plot and steal the keys to the plot bus, what suggestions would you make for it?"

Go.

1. It all starts with Character Concept~ When a player is making their character they need to be aware of the setting and how they will fit into it. Playing the moody loner is a good way to get isolated in a game with a high level of social interaction, especially if you don't bring anything else to the table.

Reading the VSS is a good first start, talking to other players is another. If there are 3 PCs in the area who are stellar weirdness investigators (a detective on the force who "knows", a blind psychic teenager, and a rougue demon hunter) then your concept for a CSI of the supernatural might get lost in the shuffle, or if you tie into the others, it might fit in just fine and you have the makings of something Joss Whedon might write.

2. Don't be afraid to talk to the ST or "walking the plank"~ If you are having problems getting involved then volunteer. Ask them to keep your PC in mind for the next plotkit they are running and offer to help get others involved. This inclides submitting DTRs to keep them up to date on what is going on.

3. Write a plotkit~ You don't have to be an ST to write one. And while this might not help you directly it could spin off into more plot later on. Or even free up some space in an ongoing one for you to step into.
