*wave* hi guys! I know I've been...non-existent, lol...but senior year of college is kicking my butt like nothing else. >< Anyway, have a fic!

Title: I'll be home for Christmas
Pairing: Sho/Shige, ninja!Aiba/Yoko
Rating: PG-13
Notes: Written for moonbyrd for je_holiday.
Summary: It's the small things that make a relationship work the best...

Sho winced as the needle slipped through the popcorn and pricked his finger for the 6th time that evening. The long thread had only 20 or so pieces of popcorn strung and he’d been working at it for a good hour now. With a haggard sigh he turned to observe his companion.

Aiba was humming Christmas songs to himself, bright gold garland slung around his neck like a boa as he tried to assemble the small fake Christmas tree. They had passed by a Don Quijote chain store on their way back from the recording studio, and the small Christmas display had piqued Aiba’s interest.

As if sensing Sho’s eyes on him, Aiba turned and grinned. “Did you know in America, they start celebrating Christmas the day after Thanksgiving?”

“That’s nice…but Aiba, this is Japan…”

Aiba laughed. “It’s great! Cultural globalization.”

“Why don’t you globalize your apartment then, instead of mine?”

His question remained unanswered as Aiba chuckled and began to hum Silent Night. Sho sighed and just shook his head, pulling his phone out of his pocket to send a mail.

Will you be home late tonight? Just to let you know, Aiba has decided we need Christmas decorations….
“Aww, are you mailing Shige?” Aiba’s voice near his ear caused him to jump.

With pink cheeks, Sho shoved the phone back in his pocket and returned to his popcorn. “I was just asking him a question.”

“Yoko never mails me!”

“That’s because you and Yoko aren’t dating,” Sho laughed, throwing a piece of popcorn at the younger man.

“We are! He just…doesn’t know it yet.”

Sho’s phone vibrated with an incoming message.

Sorry, I will be home pretty late, probably after midnight. >_< Tell Aiba he gets to clean it all up after Christmas!

…is there mistletoe? (www)

Shige winced at the sound his keys made as he accidentally dropped them after taking off his shoes. It was nearly 3am and he was sure Sho was already asleep. He gingerly placed the keys in the bowl by the door and padded into the living room.

The small lights strung around the room made him smile. In the dim light he could see the small Christmas tree with ornaments too heavy for the branches and overflowing with garland and popcorn strings. The garish colors of some of the ornaments made him wince a little, but overall the feeling of the apartment was quite nice. Though he was sure Sho was the reason tinsel was not hanging from every fixture.

Speaking of Sho…Shige sighed fondly when he saw the older man sprawled on the couch, blanket half on the floor and mouth wide open. He knelt by Sho’s head, gently brushing the hair from his forehead.

“Sho,” he leaned in and whispered, “you shouldn’t sleep on the couch…come on, wake up.”

Sho’s skin was soft against his fingertips, and he let them run down his nose, over his cheeks, pausing at his lips. He felt them twitch and he knew Sho was awake and trying not to laugh. He smirked and pinched his nose. “Why are you on the couch?”

Sho laughed and swatted at Shige’s hand. “Just fell asleep here. After Aiba left I had nothing to do. Filming has been pushed back because the director has swine flu.”

Shige mentally flipped through his schedule. With an apologetic wince he grabbed Sho’s hand, playing with his fingers. “Sorry, I have one free day this Sunday, but I’ll be pretty busy.”

Inwardly, Sho sighed. Their schedules just never seemed to match up…Sitting up, he leaned forward and touched their lips together lightly. “Don’t worry about it. We live together for a reason…so that we can see each other, even if it’s only for a few minutes.”

Shige pulled Sho to him tighter, deepening the kiss. At least, he meant to. But with Sho’s weight leaning so heavily over the side of the couch, he tumbled straight off and onto Shige’s rib cage.

Shige was gone when Sho woke up, but he hadn’t really expected him to be there in the first place. He did feel a bit disheartened. Shige’s warmth was already gone from the bed and the apartment was a bit too quiet for his liking. The rational part of his brain reminded him that Shige went through the exact same thing when Sho had a busy schedule, but the thought didn’t do anything to cheer him up.

He got out of bed and, dragging his feet, made his way to the bathroom. He was halfway into brushing his teeth when he became coherent enough to notice the bright orange post-it note on the mirror.

Aiba’s decorations reminded me that we’re both going to be busy on Christmas….so let’s celebrate on Sunday. I know it’s about a week early, but the day doesn’t really matter, does it? Originally Christmas wasn’t even on the 25th, but was changed in order to convert the pagans to Christianity…anyway, let me know!

Sho laughed, choked on his toothpaste, and after rinsing his mouth ran for his phone.

Christmas on Sunday sounds great.

He stopped himself before adding a heart emoji.

The days leading up to Sunday seemed to drag on forever. Sho had a few activities, but he was mostly free. Free to watch television, clean the apartment (sort of), surf the web, or just generally do nothing. It was free time he didn’t usually have, so he tried to make the most of it by resting at home or going out with Aiba or Matsujun. There was only so much of Jun’s snark and Aiba’s spontaneity/randomness that he could take though, so he often ended up reading quietly by himself.

It also meant Shige received a lot of phone mails.

They saw each other briefly at night or in the mornings, but they had little time to talk and Shige barely had time to even reply to Sho’s messages.

On Saturday night Shige found himself racing up the stairs to the apartment, a sense of anticipation building in him that he hadn’t felt since they first started dating. As he opened the door he could hear the sound of the shower, so he took off his coat and went into the living room, smiling at the cute and obviously store-bought strawberry cake.

The sound of the shower cut off and within a few minutes, Sho stood before him in a towel, smiling brightly.

“Everything go okay today?” he asked, leaning against the wall.

Shige smirked and walked forward to grab Sho by the hips. “It’s a lot better now.” He pushed Sho a little farther into the wall and kissed him. Sho’s hands found purchase on his shoulders, fingers bunching in the shirt, as Shige slid a knee between his legs. He pulled away a bit breathlessly.

“So you saw the mistletoe?”

Shige laughed, burying his face in Sho’s neck and breathing in the scent of his body wash. His eyes shut in contentment and he place a languid kiss there. “Yes. Nice touch.” His voice lowered to nearly a whisper. “I have missed this so much…I’m sorry I haven’t been around lately.”

“Look, don’t worry about it. I know you’re busy. Before now I’ve been busy. We just have to make time for each other.”

Smiling, Shige pulled up to kiss Sho again, deep and slow, until they were both panting for air.

Sho smiled at him. “I got a cake. Do you want to eat it now or later?”

Already pulling him by the hand into the bedroom, Shige glanced over his shoulder with a smirk. “The cake can wait…”

sho/shige, fic exchange!
