To keep on top of my insomnia, I try to follow a very strict schedule in the morning and evening. Now that the dreadful crunch is over, I'm back to making yet another schedule up and trying to get into the rhythm. But I'm writing it out after timing myself for a couple of days, and there's some nasty news: dealing with the internet (email, friends page, news, hungersite clicking, webcomics, feeds) takes me 40-90 minutes each morning. I take a 6 minute shower. It takes me 10 minutes to get dressed & ready, and 5 to eat breakfast (20 if I make it from scratch instead of having cereal or toaster waffles). I can start a load of laundry in 4 and a load of dishes in 6. I pack myself a lunch in 5.
But one internet session takes more than all of those things combined! I don't want to schedule that much time for the internet. It looks irresponsible when I put it down on paper. But why is that irresponsible? I'm looking at NEWS for heaven's sake! And keeping up with my family and friends, and making (admittedly small) donations to charity, in with all the youtube clips and webcomics. How did the internet get lumped in with video games and television as 'wastes of time'? I don't feel the same way when I'm writing out time for other things I 'enjoy', like wrapping gifts or drawing, or writing paper letters. Is it because they're electronic...? Because the older generations didn't spend time on these things? It's so weird.
No resolution here. Just saying.
