Of Plates and Bowls

Before I get started. I saw this truly horrendous photo of Boy George and I fully understand now why it is an insult to be compared to him. Karma Chameleon is great and catchy, but I have never been thankful before for not being able to see the artist when they sing a song. The horrors.

Anyway.

I just got back from shopping at the Warehouse and Briscoes (both on sale because of the Waitangi Weekend) for some flat essentials (more on that later) because I move in next week. Yes people, after a week and a half of solid looking, ringing up cranky real estate agents and getting stood up twice by said agents, I managed to score the last three bedroom apartment at the Railway Campus. It used to be the old railway station but now it's a student apartment owned by Auckland University. It's a pretty sweet deal, big-ish bedrooms, a working bathroom and a few things that everybody needs (sink, microwave, jug and toaster - in that order) I'm moving my stuff in on Saturday and I move myself in next week. May hold a little flat warming thing; at this point it's a toss-up between a Disney movie marathon or a full-on game of Circle of Death on my pseudo-lounge floor. What do you guys think?

Back to shopping for the flat. This is the first time I have ever enjoyed looking at plates and bowls. Managed to score a cool set of 6 for $5 a plate; nothing fancy because I am looking for stuff that I can afford to break. The glass tumblers are blue striped and the side plates are too. Breakfast bowls are all different colours, but all in the spectrum of 'bright and cheery'. Cheap cutlery, and then we will save up for a good set of wine glasses. This is not going to be a new hobby of mine though. I think I just like the idea of matching stuff and having things that make it a little more homey. I won't be eating out with plastic ware next week, that's for sure. After baked beans on toast for breakfast, lunch and dinner, that is the true mark of a uni student.

I also got a duvet cover/pillowcase set, single pillowcase, a regular fibre pillow and the splurge, a down pillow. I humbly thank the ducks that were plucked to stuff my new pillow. I will savour it in all its hypoallergenic glory. Everything's in a lovely violet colour, but I am shooting for a nice wine red set of sheets. Hopefully before Valentines.

Speaking of, how are you spending yours? I'm spending it alone I guess, because by then Jared will have left for Dunedin. We're not going to stay together when he leaves, so I guess that's the end of that. He's a good guy, but I'm sure we'll both meet somebody fantastic this year.
