The short of it: I placed 5th out of 11.
http://askfred.net/Results/results.php?tournament_id=9649 You should be able to see three images I took screenshots of below. This tournament ended up not being a big tournament like the last San Bernardino tournament because it was at Hemet High School. For some reason the host said that this revenue just doesn't attach a lot of fencers. The travel was nice and was pleasant. The revenues it big and is fine to support a big tournament. The host and bout committee were all nice and seeing many of the same elite Epee fencers was nice.
However, because of the lack of fencers, the Epee tournament was not able to get 15 fencers, which is the required amount to have any tournament above an E1. We had all the strong fencers and requirements for an A1 tournament, but just not enough fencer to fill the spots. So for everyone this was just a good times and good practice tournament against good quality fencer and hanging out. After we all couldn't get people to get the to tournament we processed to the tournament and got our pools.
Danny Torres(C07) - A nice guy with a sense of humor. A good experienced fencer, but it sort of slow and doesn't like to defend a lot. He presses forward but is quick to stop if he see an attack or a faint coming at him. I ended up winning just just waiting and counter attacking and two attacks with second intentions. Victory 5-3
Max Barber(B09) - This was the second encounter between Max and I, the last meeting in pool I won 5-4 with a very close great match. This times, he was keeping his distance and keep his weapon down low away from me to not be able to hit his blade. Most of my counters were also not landing. He out attacked me and was good about his attacks. He got the better of me this day winning 5-4, so we were even.
Frank Hewitt(A09) - An older, taller, very experience top rated and national ranked Veteran fencer. He was the only one that gave me problems today. I kept my distance and so did he. My strategy was working and was right, but failed in the execution of my parries and counter attacks. He commented afterward that I forced him to charge at me which is hard for experience fencer such as him, but mean I am doing stuff right. Lost 5-2
Adam Illingworth(B09) - A younger fencer from the No Fear group. Very smooth and quick. However it seems either he was not at his best. He was chasing points, and attacking quickly. A lot of his fancy moves working, but they also backfired on him. I ended up keeping my cool and letting him beat himself and allowed me to win 5-4.
Neils Johnson(U) - A young new fencer that if I heard right, only been fencing for four months. Which is good because he's pretty solid and not intimated but just needs the blade work to be successful. I got a little over confident and he took a lead over me and then I had to settle down and get serious and new strategy. Sadly, I ended up doing a nice lunge and hit cleaning, but ended up breaking my blade. Which I was like "What?!?! Barely hit him and he's a little guy!" He was fine and not hurt, and it was just the blade's time to give out after so much practice. Ended up winning 5-4, but it hurt my indicator a little getting hit so much, when I shouldn't have.
I ended up winning three and losing two, my first win percentage over 50%, and I also scored the same amount as I got hit, which results in a 0 indicator. This ended seeding me 5th in the tournament, which was good considering the strong fencers that were in the tournament.
I was seeded 5th and Max Barber was seeded 4th, so we ended up having to fence again. This was our first DE together and it went his way. He used to same techniques as he did in the pool and they were working. With my new blade I had to start using as the other broke was not serving me well. My hits to the arm and hand that felt like they landed were not registering valid and I lot 4 points that way. After falling 4 points behind I wasn't able to catch back up and lost 15-9. I joke it was not dramatic as I wanted it to be. Max was just on his good day today and was the better fencer. Cool guy who likes to wear pink and rainbows and a sweet guy overall. He ended up coming in second losing in the finals. I was happy for him and look forward to beating him next time.
Overall a good day and good practice. Had it been an A1, and I placed 5th, I would have been a D rated fencer now. However the four people could have made a difference in the standings. We'll never know!
