When I first moved to London, I spent a few days tooling around because I hadn't moved into my flat. One of the things I did while tooling around was open a savings account with Lloyds. Just a simple account, nothing fancy. More a sort of virtual moneybox. Interest rate is practically nothing, although it's still approximately 10000000x the interest rate on a Japanese account.
Anyway, I hadn't used it yet because I was short on cash anyway and also hadn't sorted out the internet banking I needed in order to be able to transfer money in and out.
However, now, I have purpose. I have meaning. I have something to save for. Next May, Asylum 6, the UK's most awesome Supernatural convention, is being held on a weekend that I can actually make it. And by god, I am going. I wanna spend 3 days geeking out with people of my fandom. I can already taste the nerdilicious fun.
And you know what? I just put 350 pounds in the savings account toward that very goal. When I sign up for the NHS Staff Bank in September, I will be putting some of my wages in there too, not to mention saving some of my bursary each month.
I HAVE SAVINGS!
