We painted a school today and I got paint all over me. Like everywhere.
it was hideous.
but anyway someone told me they had something to get it off them but they like only spoke thai so they showed me by washing paint off their hands by doing it so i was like oh cool.
and it ended up being paint thinner and my arms started to burn and i was dying ohmygod.
luckily there was this huge water barrel nearby with a tap so i rinsed and then used this soap to get the thinner off as much as i could. so i walked away for awhile (still covered in paint) and waited for people to come back with something that was safe for skin but still took paint off, which they actually went and bought specifically for me, because i was the only one covered (i took the unwanted job of painting upside down under a bridge thing.)
So they brought it back and i took it and was putting it on my arms when someone came and like ripped it from me so i was like ok that's cool let me just sit here with chemicals on my arms that's nice. so i went to rinse it off and someone else was there and i just asked if i could rinse my arms off but they just told me WAIT TO WASH BODY PARTS LATER JUST WASH HANDS NOW. i tried to explain and she finally turned around and was like OH *moves* lfm.
so I was washing my hands and arms and legs when my arms started to really burn again. I guess the new stuff was reacting badly with paint thinner which was still on my skin. I started intensely washing my skin off despite being surrounded by people who wanted to wash because it was burning so bad and i needed to get it off.
idk there's this girl on the trip that doesn't seem to like me much. I guess I just rub her the wrong way, y'know? but anyway she was behind me and I had just told someone sorry but my arms are burning i gotta get this off so everyone was like oh ok *waits* except this girl who took it upon her to passive aggressively tell me to move the fuck out of the way. She just started telling everyone "Well I think Mary is monopolizing the water." or "wow i thought everyone had heard of water conservation". god idk she's 25 you'd think she'd understand after i just explained to her my arms are burning that i need the water to rinse it off. she's even a nurse she knows what chemicals do to skin if they stay on there.
anyway it just kinda irked me and i just had to get that off of my chest because i've been getting bad vibes from her the whole trip but have been trying to be mello about it. I won't snap at her she just bugs me.
I think one of the reasons why she doesn't like me though is she's like super atheist (which there is nothing wrong with being atheist lmf) bt she's super atheist in the way that she actively goes out of her way to cut people with beliefs down and try to convince "convert" them, as she says, to atheism. she's one of those people that are the reason why some people out there see atheists as just cynical people who try to get in everyone's face, just in the same way there are people who practice religion who try to shove it in everyone's face, giving those who practice religion a bad rep as well. she's singled out three people on this trip that she's trying to convert, one a jew, one a hardcore buddhist, and me.
it never bothered me until she made a comment when we were in the refugee camp. the majority of the refugees are Christian, and whether or not you believe in Christianity, it was very powerful to see the hope these people had gained from it, and from just that small hope they clung onto, to see how happy they were and what they had done. And this girl made a comment about how they had false hope so maybe one day she'll come back and convert them. she wasn't joking either. I was like seriously even if you don't believe in it these people have been through hell and you want to take away the little hope they have?
idk, i haven't really said two words to her except when she insulted me and my faith and started badgering people in the car about their religions. i just told her you know it's cool if you don't believe what i believe but just in the way you don't want people to push their religions on you don't try to push your beliefs on me when i just made it clear where i stand.
that's the only thing about this trip that has bothered me and it's really lame that someone is bringing up political and religious arguments and stirring up animosity while we're supposed to be focusing on working as a group to help other people. so i just wanted to get that off my chest so it doesn't bother me anymore.
anyway we head off to another village tomorrow so i won't be around for a few days but ilu all
and val i bought and violated your buddha.
it's hideous.
