My journal has been really quiet the last few months (since the school year ended) but I’ve noticed a similar turn in a lot of journals on my friends list (please write more, I promise I will). I have been having a hard time finding time to write since Warren has been back and busy with his thesis. I realise we need two computers and I think this ( Read more... )

that's a great idea about raspberries and star fruit. the star fruit would make such a great presentation. i'm not good with presentation. i think that's my true weakness in the kitchen. i've thought about working in a kitchen to get the feel for the job - to see if i'd be good at it or not despite how much i like to cook and bake but i think i would never make a great chef (or a memorable one) because i think my palette is not refined or in tune enough. i think that's the thing that separates a chef from a mere cook ( ... )

How could you forget about the Willam Sonoma registry?!

A registry list off the top of my head... you know the KitchenAid would be right at the top, a few le creuset items for sure, and a decent full set of dishes. The hodge podge of Target/pottery barn gifts I've got now are a bit of a mess. I love the PB ones I have though, made fill out that line? A girl can dream...

I've never been to this container store but being the tidy girl that I am I'm sure I could do some damage in there ;)

Pavalova - Blueberries and raspberries are good too (Strawberries are too sweet for it in my opinion) You can also try making little ones, like tarts. Put the base in a piping tube (like for icing) with a LARGE star tip, then pipe out little nests (or other shapes) on a wax paper covered baking sheet. Keep an eye on them as they cook in less time than the big version! Good Luck fellow Domestic Goddess!!

dude! i bow down to you! you even have a piping bag!

that's crazy talk.

are you more of a tart flavour fan (in general) than a sweet flavour fan? when i was house-sitting, i stole 4 lbs of rhubarb to freeze for desserts in the winter. now they reside by my arsenal of cranberries.

shiu said we might try to visit you in michigan when he comes back. i'm super excited!

I've done that same Pavlova recipe and it's usually a hit. I like to put raspberries and star fruit on it (the sour of the raspberries works really well with the super sweet meringue and whip cream)

Best thing about having a wedding... the registry, all my William Sonoma, Crate & Barrel dreams will come true someday (I will have that KitchenAid by God!)

damn my reply got cut off.

i think it would be a false tribute to my ancestry. plus, i hope it would be a more relaxed affair. the keys: good viet/chinese banquet and the sadies! no stupid speeches in my broken vietnamese or doing things like going and giving a huge offering of food and gifts to the groom's side. blah!

my aunt had a nice trad dress that had a modern bent - instead of having a red dress, she had an ao dai that was blue and silver brocade. so pretty. i don't know if chinese weddings are like this but viet weddings end up being a stupid, show-off-y pageant with five dress changes, etc.

most weddings i remember have the one change. during the day they would do the church thing in the white dress, and in the evening they'd do the chinese thing with the red dress.

i can't believe you found a mikasa coffee pot! is it the brown one? it's so nice. sorry i was so groggy last night, i would've liked to visit longer but was super out of it. i don't actually remember where i was or what i was doing when i was speaking to you on the phone. that's all, it's just that you guys both looked pretty perplexed as you were leaving.

dammit_spock July 7 2004, 15:00:54 UTC
no, not perplexed. we just didn't want to impose because we thought you might like some sleepy-alone-time. i know i don't like to be around people (for too long) when i'm not feeling good. that's all.

although i find it hilarious that you were high. high! :)

yes! so offensive! i'll write about it during my show. warren asked me afterwards when we were on our walk if i was stressed out because every time i opened my mouth, all this worked up shit would come out it.

i think the movie had some good points about not eating fast food or really, processed foods in general but really didn't explain that too well. i think it relied too heavily on assumptions. i think it was too much of a 1:1 ratio of fast food = fat and i don't think that's necessarily the case.
