The Christmas Truce of 1914

Dec 23, 2014 12:39

This is an incredibly true story in the history of WW1.

In Christmas morning, 1914, both the British and the Germans had a ceasefire and left the trenches and greeted eachother instead of fighting eachother. Both sides layed down their arms and celebrating Christmas together, even playing Football.

This was only for one day sadly. And as Christmas ended, both sides went back to their trenches and continued fighting. The war continued, and that was the liast time that day would ever happen again.

I have heard this tale many times. I quite liked that part of WW1 because that day both sides completely forgotten about their war with eachother, and put aside their differences and became friends for the sake of Christmas, even if it was a short time. Even though it was only one day, just one day, there was peace.
