Me: Yeah, I don't do prayer.
Stepmom: Yeah, she's kind of agnostic.
Me: Well, I'm an atheist, if that's what you mean.
Friend of Family: That's what happens in college.
Me: I've always had doubts, been an admitted atheist since I was about 14 and I graduated from college two years ago.
Friend of Family: Well, everything changes when you have kids.
Me: My kids will not set foot in a church until they're old enough to learn about religion objectively. About when they start learning algebra.
Stepmom (plaintively): Don't say that! You have to have an open mind, and not indoctrinate your children in your beliefs, just like we did with you!
Me: ...
Me: ...
Me: ...you mean how I was baptized and sent to VBS and church camp how you made me go to church and Sunday school every week until I was old enough to refuse, which still took getting into weekly arguments with the sunday school teacher and making up alternate words to all the hymns before I got to stay home? That kind of non-indoctrination?
