Well, of course we are talking about outdoor cats in that case, not cats that have been thrown together into a household.
Certainly as will all creatures great and small, not all cats try to kill or rape all other cats at every given moment.
Also remember that what age a male got neutered at is a factor. A male neutered too late in life DOES exude male hormones. Hell, my male, who was neutered after having fathered kittens, still has a very healthy sex life with his wife when she goes into heat. AND my neutered male regulariy tried to rape my roommate's cats which was where all the hostility between them came from.
But in a situation like this one where the males don't know each other and have been thrown in together, I guarantee you this is the kind of thing that is going on.
By the by, with yer dad's cat...
I've watched barn cats play and get along, neutered and un-neutered alike. It doesn't matter how good friends they seem to be, I guarantee you that every once in a while one of them at least goes through the motions of mounting the other in a show of dominance. Cats are hierarchal. That older cat that belongs to ted and the younger one also frequently groom each other, play, cuddle and generally protect each other... but every once in a while the older one has to tell the younger who's boss.
Come be a spinster with me when we're old and we'll have a house full of catsemu72June 8 2001, 14:22:16 UTC
Ahh... barn cats...
:)
Love watching them as they gather round the cow being milked and open their mouths to catch the squirts that get aimed at them.
So cute.
With ma Da's kitty...
I think it's also a factor that Dudley was taken away from his mother way too early. He barely knows how to purr and meow, and he bites, he'll never scratch you, doens't seem to know how, but he will bite you, and quite hard, has made me bleed on more than one occasion. And he is quite aggressive, took a long time to train him out of biting your ankle as you walked by.
I don't think he knows he's a cat.
He's got some of the weirdest personality traits for a cat I've ever seen.
You ever see an attack that involves facing your enemy by turning you ass to them and then diving through the back legs? He always gets tangled up doing it too, very funny watching a very angry cat get tangled up in himself trying to attack you.
But he was neutered after he was about a year old. We got him as a stray. He just showed up one day in winter, and never went away. So he probably is dominant over Lucky with the aid of his pheremones.

Nifty keen-o cat factoid day!
