Chelsea by Counting Crows
it's good for everybody to hurt somebody once in a while
the things I do to people I love shouldn't be allowed.
»
Casanova Lament by Frank Turner [♥]
it's pathetic and I know it, but the truth is there've been mornings
I've proved prudent taking toothpaste to the pub
but that's precious little comfort against the knowledge of the person I've become
it isn't love, it isn't love, it isn't love
but every time I kind of wish it was.

Chicago by Lucy Wainwright Roche [♥]
picturing that, I went to the movies
and everyone clapped
heralding justice, hoping for change and
spilling their soda.
I finally got around to listening to another talented member of the Wainwright-McGarrigle-Roche clan. Rufus is operatic, Martha is ballsy folk, and I guess Lucy is really pretty, melodic folk.

Chimp In A Three Piece Suit by The King Blues
him a smug bastard and you know that I hate him
head up the buttock of a backward nation
I can decide for myself what I think is wrong
when him a kill, him a steal, him a lie, him a bomb.

Come Fi Di Youth by The King Blues
I see them coming for the youth, and me say "no, Lord"
I see them coming for the youth, and me say "no"
they riot through the night in Burnley
we have another kind of mashup party here in Hackney
they come to take away my liberties,
but 'round here we nah want no stinkin' BNP.

Woods by Bon Iver
I'm up in the woods
I'm down on my mind
I'm building a still
to slow down the time.
»
When I Dream Of Michelangelo by Counting Crows
I wanna white bread life
just something ignorant in the rain
but from the walls of Michelangelo
I'm dangling again.
»
Wisdom Teeth by Frank Turner [♥]
it's been eighteen months since I kissed you once
so just saying "hi," just isn't going to fly
but if you give me a clue and a minute or two
then I might remember your name
[...]
and all the pretty little pictures of faith and firm devotion
that I painted as a child
well they have fallen by the wayside, along with all my puppy-fat.

Wherefore Art Thou, Elvis? by The Gaslight Anthem [♥♥♥]
now I got scars like the number of stars, my head's full of vipers
I got the dust of the desert in my bones, coming through the amplifiers
between the minor chord fall and the fourth and the fifth
it's a broken Hallelujah and a pain in my fist
I wash my hands like the man with the blood on his teeth
over and over without relief.

We Hate The Kids by The Indelicates [♥]
I wanted to believe in rock'n'roll stars
I wanted to believe in contemporary art
I wanted to aspire to a higher path
but there's no higher path
[...]
and this gift is an illusion, this isn't hard
absolutely anyone can play the fucking guitar
oh yeah, we mean it
we hate the kids
useless children genuflecting
to the idols who exploit them
open mouthed and arsed expecting
some God to anoint them
dance dance dance to this radio tonight.

Miami by Counting Crows
can I say I wish that this weather would never leave?
it just gets hard to believe
that God sent this angel to watch over me
'cause my angel, she don't receive my call
says I'm too dumb to fuck?
too dumb to fight
too dumb to save.

Mrs. O by The Dresden Dolls [♥]
and oh Mrs. O
will you tell about the time they made you go
all alone to the palace where they took your only clothes
we all know
there's no Hell and no Hiroshima
Chernobyl was a cover up
the world is really all in love.
[...]
the truth can't save you now
the sky is falling down
everything they ever told us
shakes our faith and breaks their promise
but you can stop the truth from leaking
if you never stop believing.

My Alcoholic Friends by The Dresden Dolls [♥]
I'm trying hard not to be ashamed
not to know the name of who is waking up beside me
or the date, the season, or the city
but at least the ceiling's very pretty.

Miles Davis & The Cool (KEXP Acoustic) by The Gaslight Anthem
look Miles Davis, I've been swayed by the cool
there's just something about the summertime
there's just something about the moon
so I'll lay a kiss on this stone, toss it upside your window, by the roof
before you change your mind, Miles, bring in the cool
now honey, put on your red dress.
and your diamond soled shoes.
climb on down from that window.
climb on out of your room.

My Boulder by The King Blues [♥]
I said, "if you need a place to stay you can always come over
I'll clean out the front room and you can sleep on my sofa."
he said "I can only apologise if I seem out of touch
the only reason I scream and shout is cos I care so much."
so you can lean on me,
cry on my shoulder,
if I'm Obelix,
you are my boulder.
Hearts, meet eyes. Look, it's a bunch of East End punk lads singing about friendship and making ASTERIX REFERENCES. Plz to be downloading this, I can guarantee that everyone will love it 'cause iof you don't then you're not human. It's one of those messy, drunk, arms-around-shoulders sing-a-long songs.
I can only put so much music on my computer before it starts working at 5mph, so these recs are comprised of what I've been listening to for the past couple of months. If you like The Indelicates then you'll probably like Frank Turner as they both share that political/wry/jaded/witty/social/self-conscious punk-folkiness. If you like Frank Turner then you'll probably like The King Blues as they're both all punky and political and shit. If you like Counting Crows, you'll probably like The Gaslight Anthem. Um, if you like Julia Indelicate's voice then you'll probably like Lucy Wainwright Roche. edit: and if you like political/wry/etc then you'll probably like The Dresden Dolls. All these recs must be related somehow, that's why I've been listening to them. I just haven't been bothered to think about it.
Right, I'm going to have a shower now and then spend a couple of hours panicking and tearing through all my clothes trying to find something decent/smart enough to wear FOR MY JOB. TOMORROW. (Rebs, that pair of black flats you gave me are going to save my life, I swear.)
