Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song. You go ahead, let your hair down.

Happy 18th Birthday, dearest fakinghome!!!
\o/ Go get drunk! ♥♥♥

I have more questions for people.

Tell me about your home-town/city/state/county/area/whatever! What famous (or not so) people come from where you're from? Musicians, bands - big or small! Actors, celebrities, politicians! Are there certain foodstuffs, manufactured goods or events that are particular or celebrated?

Je m'appelle Samantha. J'habite à Huddersfield, c'est une grande ville industrielle dans le nord d'Angleterre... (Such is the pathetic mental remains of the A I got in French at GCSE. Three and a half years have just flown by.)

What have I got? Well, I'll show you: Patrick Stewart (CAPTAIN JEAN LUC PICARD!), Embrace (rubbish band), Last of the Summer Wine (love-it-or-hate-it nostalgic tv), The League of Gentlemen (FUCKING BRILLIANT PROGRAMME), Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (jazz. internationally reknowned... apparently), Peter Falconio (murdered/missing tourist), Harold Wilson (Prime Minister 1964-70 and 1974-1976), Simon Armitage (poet).

Admittedly, all but the last three come from surrounding areas around the town, but they're close enough to be adopted. Because otherwise, Huddersfield is pretty much bottom of the class. I don't know how much longer we can hold onto "well, our football team won the FA Cup in 1921/22!" and "we were one of the greatest textile producers a hundred years ago!"

And to finish off - musical-types from West Yorkshire, in order of how much I rate them/their songs. (The last three are kinda smushed together, with CBR just ahead 'cause her lyrics are nice and she sounds pretty, but she's a tad dull.)

» Kaiser Chiefs; Every Day I Love You Less & Less, I Heard It Through The Grapevine, I Predict A Riot, Na Na Na Na Naa [indie pop/rock]
» Mel B from the Spice Girls; Mama, Spice Up Your Life, Stop [best. pop. ever.]
» Chumbawamba; Tubthumping [anarchist multi-genre]
» Corinne Bailey Rae; Put Your Records On, Trouble Sleeping [neo-soul]
» Embrace; Gravity [alt rock]
» The Cribs; The Modern Way (Kaiser Chiefs cover) [indie rock]

Anyone have anything by ¡Forward, Russia!, or Gareth Gates (particularly "Spirit In The Sky" and that shoddy cover of "Bridge Over Troubled Water")?

small music post, only a northern song, getting to know the flist
