The obituary ran today in the Desert Sun, but it wasn't quite right. This is what Mom wrote... and let me just say, my Grandpa was a wonderful man. His kindness, strength, and sparkling eyes are things I will always love, and hope my children will one day have.
Richard "Dick" Haynes, 80, of La Quinta, died Friday, June 2, 2006 at home from injuries related to an auto accident in January.
He was born March 11, 1926 to Virginia Whitman and Merle Haynes in Everett, WA.
He married Doris Curtiss on August 30, 1945 in Puyallup, WA.
Owner of Bentons Paint in Indio for over 25 years, his loyal customers fondly called him Mr. Benton. He was also a volunteer with the Indio Cultural Museum.
He is survived by his wife Doris, three sons; Rick Haynes of Canyon Lake, Steve Haynes of Palm Springs, and Ron Haynes of La Quinta; his daughter, Kim Fischer, of La Quinta; a brother, Bill Haynes of Fairfield; a sister, Jean Berry of Gibsonia, PA; and 6 grandchildren: Doug and Beth Haynes, Emily, Shelby and Steven Blackwood and Jenelle Fischer.
The family suggests that donations be made to the Indio Cultural Museum and Odessy Hospice.
