Wow, I haven't written in here for ages upon ages....
Rehearsal was good tonight. We got paid for Saturday. It's always nice to get paid. Interesting note though. We discussed the gig - what went well, what could be improved. As usual. B* asked if there were any negative comments. Some of us waited until after the rehearsal to approach him about the negative stuff we'd heard. From several people - about the singer. And according to B*, she had phoned him tonight to complain that "we" did "all this work" and we don't get paid enough. Now, she's a singer. She comes late, leaves early, never carries any equipment except her microphone, and in a 4 hour gig, she does maybe 12 tunes. We do, oh, at least 50. She shows up for the rehearsal before a gig. If that. And she has the gall to presume to speak for the band and include us in her royal "We." We had asked B* to mention to her that she needs to finesse the mic a bit. Pull back from it on high notes and basically use it as part of her instrument. As a vocalist, her instrument is her voice and the mic. She tends to shout, and geez, that's why you've got a microphone! So you don't HAVE to shout. Apparently he has mentioned that to her, and she ignores him. Well, if we put out an open audition for female singers, we'd get dozens of hopefuls. Maybe we won't have to fire her after all. Maybe she'll quit. That wouldn't be a bad thing.
