Yesterday was the general session of stake conference, so we finally had our choir performance. It went really well, and it was a lot of fun, but now we don't have a choir to sing in, so it's a little sad. Of course, there's the matter of our ward choir, but that is a...difficult situation.
In happier news, the Primary's musical number went really well, too! I think I mentioned that we had a practice for them a couple of weeks ago and only four kids showed up. Well, yesterday morning, we had a pretty good sized group. Of course it wasn't anything like a professional children's choir, but really all we need is the cuteness of children singing for that sort of thing to be a success, and we did have that! There was one little girl who's about four years old, and while the kids waited on the stand for the meeting to start (they would sing from the choir loft at the beginning of the meeting, then go down to sit with their families), she kept asking Athena all kinds of questions, like, "Why are you wearing your sister's glasses?" XD
The friends who drove us to yesterday's meeting found out we're going to Paris, and they have family in France, so they go a lot. They asked us what our plans were for the afternoon, and we said we were going to listen to a French audiobook, so they were like, "Good! Practice your French!" And then they told us they were disappointed the last time they went to France, because everybody spoke English to them. XD That helped us feel a little bit better as far as getting around--one of our biggest fears is of being lost. It's kind of a silly fear, because we've been lost in Japan, at least three times, and we were fine. We know how to figure out the cardinal directions based on the position of the sun! And if we don't cheap out, we can use GPS. Nevertheless, irrational fears wouldn't be called irrational if they were rational.
Still, we have our reasons for wanting to be able to communicate in French. And even without those reasons, we were going to listen to that audiobook. The narrator is just so good! Also, we were highly amused to learn that the French word for espresso is expresso! We know a few people who get annoyed when people speaking English say "expresso." I don't know if it would mollify them or make them more upset if we were to tell them, "They're just using the French word for it," but either way, I'm pretty happy about it.
As for this week, we realized that we've been a little lax in our work, so now we have to pick up the pace a bit, and that meant we had to work overtime today, alas. Fortunately, it was only a little bit of overtime, and hopefully it won't be a long-term thing, but we did just get a new assignment this morning, so...we'll see. Still, it's all very good news for our Paris funds.
Today I'm thankful for getting to sing in the stake choir, having a bunch of cute kids show up for the Primary number, having a pretty uplifting stake conference, getting to listen to more Percy Jackson (in French), and the French word for espresso being expresso.
