Today has been a very productive day. We asked a friend to take us to Target and we took Step One in our Ambitious Plan that Will Likely Never Be Realized (number...387 or something like that; we makes these plans a lot). See, the Miraculous macarons experience had us thinking, like the little brats that we are, that surely there are better flavors to represent the Miraculous characters, and besides Carapace definitely needs to be on the lineup. Naturally, that got us thinking about making our own macarons. This is a ridiculous idea, because we don't bake, and from what we've heard on the cooking shows that we watch a surprising amount of considering how very narrow our diet is, macarons are among the very most difficult things to get right.
Nevertheless, we're feeling ambitious, so if we can work toward the goal slowly, why the heck not try? For today, the original mission was to see if we could get almond flour for a reasonable price. Instead, we bought an electric mixer. See, before today, I went online and found a walkthrough on how to make macarons, and it said that you should use an electric mixer. And we don't even have an electric mixer--that is how utterly unprepared we are to make macarons.
(That's not entirely our fault. We had one that we inherited when Mom got remarried, almost 19 years ago. And because we never bake, we never used it...until a little while ago when we tried to use it. I think it was with our pineapple cake adventures. Anyway, we turned it on, and it started smoking, and we thought that probably wasn't supposed to happen, nor was it likely to be safe. So we turned it off and mixed whatever we were making by hand.)
So now we have an electric mixer. Our selection strategy was that we looked at the electric mixers they had at Target, we saw one that made us go, "That one looks good!" and we bought it. We know very little about it, but at this point, frankly, as long as it mixes stuff, we're probably good. And now that we have an electric mixer, we're thinking of all the things we could try making in addition to our foolhardy macaron quest! ...We'll see if we ever make good on those ambitions, either.
And that's only one of the things we accomplished today! We also managed to finish a simulpub, and the tankoubon we were working on, and we did laundry! Good thing, too, because tomorrow they're starting to power wash and paint the laundry facility.
And to top it all off, we played Splatoon 3. That doesn't actually seem like an accomplishment, but it is, because we actually did story mode. See, when we turned on the Switch to do the rounds in Animal Crossing, we discovered that Grawp or one of his siblings was playing Splatoon 3, which means his family finally upgraded from Splatoon 2, so we want to be better prepared for when any niece or nephew calls to play Splatoon 3. But we're really excited, because Hagger is the biggest Splatoon fan in the family, and they got Splatoon 2 just in time to do the last Splatfest ever, which was bittersweet, because Hagger liked the Splatfest, but then there weren't any more. Now they are having them for Splatoon 3, so Hagger should get to do plenty more before they stop again, and that makes us happy. (Especially because the tri-color battles are super fun.)
Today I'm thankful for having a good time running errands with a friend, getting to have some Joe's Italian Ice, making progress in our foolhardy quest, having an electric mixer that probably won't smoke, and being ahead of schedule on work.
