The outside world...

One of our nephews finally remembered we exist! Or rather, he finally remembered Splatoon 2 exists, and he spotted Athena's avatar hanging out around...the city...in Splatoon 2. Inkopolis? Anyway. That reminded him that he can call Athena and play with her, so that's what he did! And as the evening went on, his sister and brother came along and remembered we exist, so now they all know we exist again. We'll see how long that lasts. XD

Not that the gaming itself was extremely eventful. Splatoon rarely is. It's super fun, but it's pretty much the same thing over and over without a whole lot of new developments. Sometimes you just need to do the same thing over and over, with a friend.

Before that, we were playing Breath of the Wild. At the Young Women activity on Thursday, I talked to a friend who really likes it, so I'm trying to not be automatically annoyed by it. It's really not that annoying, I think. It just hasn't been awesome enough to overcome our negative first impression, which I've discussed in other posts. ...I feel like I had something else to say about this game, but it's completely fled my mind.

Oh! I remember now. The thing about open world games. They have these beautiful worlds that people spent a lot of time and energy making, and it's cool to explore them and admire what the game developers have done. But on the other hand, it's like, "You know there's a great, big, beautiful real world out there, too, right?" So sometimes playing open world games makes us feel even more like hopeless couch potatoes, because they remind us that there's a real world outside our apartment. But video games are so much easier to wander around than the real world is...and I still get tired from that (which is especially impressive, because I just watch while Athena plays). ...Maybe we need to start exercising. I mean, we definitely do. But who has the time for that? (We might, if we'd put down the video games...)

Anyway. Today I'm thankful for getting to play video games with our nephew, getting to try the new chocolate-covered Paydays, finally catching a Dragapult, our other nephew still wanting to talk even after it was time to turn off their video games, and getting to see a super cute hummingbird.

splatoon, family stuff, zelda
