I mentioned before that Mom and Steve are serving a mission in Japan right now. I think everyone's still working out what that means as far as connecting with family on a regular basis. For example, today Celeste started a text group with the two of us and Sarah because she was needing attention. After some discussion about how I should probably leave my phone connected to wifi or data instead of only turning on wifi for a minute or two when I want to check Instagram, we decided we might as well give our sister something to do.
See, she's been playing Hogwarts Legacy lately, and we haven't because we don't have the latest iteration of X-Box (or any iteration of X-Box), and we only have a PlayStation 4, which means we can't play it yet. And actually, we haven't really been interested in it. The first we heard of it was when a friend asked, "Have you heard about the open-world Harry Potter game?", and I think that was around the time we had been playing Kingdom Hearts III, where the worlds are enormous and we got pretty tired of running around everywhere trying to find all the treasure chests and hidden Mickeys. So we heard "open world," and we thought, "Wow, running around a giant video game world... No thanks." So we didn't pay it much attention.
Pokemon Legends and Pokemon Scarlet seem to be kind of "open world," and they're pretty good, so the idea seems less heinous now, but we still didn't care that much. We have so many other video games that we don't have time for, after all. But then we caught wind of the fact that our favorite voice actor is in the French dub of the game. So now we're interested...but only if we can play the game with French audio. French audio with English subtitles would be ideal, but we can make due with French subtitles, too.
So we asked Celeste if she knows if you can play the game in different languages. She didn't know. But she said she'd find out for us! ...And then I guess she forgot, because we haven't heard from her since. Hopefully that means she was able to fill the void that was left by Mom and Steve.
(ETA: just kidding, she texted while we were eating dinner. (Disconnected WiFi is not only reason we tend to miss attempts at communication.) She said she wasn’t seeing a language option. Hrm.)
Later, we got a call from Mom and Steve, because I actually am leaving my phone connected to wifi now, in the afternoons and evenings. (Mom and Steve can only call using WhatsApp, so I have to use wifi or data if we want to communicate with them at all.) The call was nice. They're still getting used to life in Japan and all the walking it entails. I remember having conversations with Kodansha editors in Japan about all the stairs... We were so out of breath...
Anyway, they've got some cool stuff going on. Working on projects to help reduce the coal pollution in Mongolia and provide more access to drinking water in Micronesia. It's pretty amazing, really.
As for us, we finally finished catching up on that simulpub, so we can mostly relax this weekend. We just have to prepare some lessons, because we're both teaching in church on Sunday.
Today I'm thankful for getting to touch base with our sisters, getting to touch base with Mom and Steve, catching up on that simulpub, getting to finish Lockwood & Co., and getting to have some extra chocolaty milkshakes.
