A manga sort of day

What do I have to write about today? ...We went to church...studied the scriptures...and read manga. That's pretty much our day in a nutshell. The manga we read was mostly Koi ni Mudaguchi, the newest series by Ryoko Fukuyama. It's full of ridiculousness and thoroughly awesome. It would be so much fun to translate...and also a pain in the neck. I don't know if we'd ever get the honor, though, because Viz got Fukuyama-sensei's last series.

And that reminds us of the thing I always think about when I think about Ryoko Fukuyama. I think we posted about it here before, but it would have been like ten years ago, so I think it's worth a retelling now. It's from back in the day when we were following a bunch of manga artists on Twitter. Fukuyama-sensei started whining about her massive craving for pancakes... And I couldn't remember the details, so I actually went back in our LiveJournal to find our last telling of it, and since that has even more details, I think I'll just copy and paste it here.

There was an earthquake around lunchtime yesterday [Nov.30, 2010] (or I guess it was today, considering time zones, but it was lunchtime in Japan), and all the Japanese people we're following tweeted about it (including a couple of people who said "I didn't notice it; I was on the train."), and Fukuyama-sensei tweeted, "Am I the only one craving pancakes right now?"

After that the craving grew and grew, probably because she had a bunch of fans tweeting, "I want pancakes, too!" and some other people tweeting, "I wanted some, too, so I made some and ate them." So she got kind of whiny about it, and even tweeted in English "NO HOTCAKE NO LIFE."

It was about at that point that Natsuki Takaya tweeted at her, "If you're so obsessed with pancakes, you should just marry them! Just marry them!" And Fukuyama-sensei was like, "Oh! Good idea!" Then she was like, "If I took his name, then I would be Hotcake Ryoco. That's kind of long (ホットケーキリョウコ." And Takaya-sensei was like, "Yeah, but it's kind of cool..."

And we were like, XD

And there you have it.

Today I'm thankful for the lovely musical number we had in sacrament meeting, Hakusensha offering the first two volumes of Koi ni Mudaguchi free online for a limited time, pancakes, having a ward activity on Saturday, and finally having an excuse to show off the Chat Noir t-shirts we got back in May.
