A Garden Secret

Five baby eastern cottontails in one of my raised beds.  I have more pics and video, too, that I can post.  They are so impossibly small and cute!  Their eyes are not open yet, though they have more hair today than they did yesterday.  Mama keeps an eye on me when I'm near them and I've been leaving her fresh organic veggies to be friendly.  Lactating mothers need high quality calories!

These are not the first of the year, there are some scooters in the yard, already, but these are the first babies of this age I've ever seen (wild).  Until today, they had a cap of soil over them and lots of their mother's soft belly hair lining their chamber.  But now they are too squirmy to keep it on.  It's going to be cold tonight, however, and after I take TB out for the last time, I'm going to make sure these wee ones are tucked in.
