It's Groundhog Day and here's the run-down. First the Canadian groundhogs.
Wiarton Willie of Wiarton, ON predicted six more weeks of winter.
Balzac Billy of Balzac, AB predicted an early spring.
Snewsie the Gopher of Moosejaw, SK predicted an early spring.
Manitoba Merv of Winnipeg, MB predicted an early spring.
Winnipeg Willow of The Forks, MB predicted an early spring.
There was no accessible report from Fenwick Flossie of Welland, ON at time of publication. (I could only find last year's prediction.)
Fred la Marmotte of Val d'Espoir, QC predicted an early spring.
And Shubenacadie Sam of Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park, NS predicted an early spring.
Next, the American groundhogs.
Punxsutawney Phil of Gobler's Knob, PA predicted six more weeks of winter.
Dunkirk Dave of Dunkirk, NY predicted an early spring.
Holtsville Hal of Holtsville, NY predicted an early spring.
Malverne Mel of Malverne, NY predicted an early spring.
Charles G "Staten Island Chuck" Hogg of Staten Island, NY predicted six more weeks of winter.
Woodstock Willie of Woodstock, IL predicted six more weeks of winter.
Buckeye Chuck of Marion, OH predicted an early spring.
Wynter of the Milwaukee County Zoo, Milwaukee, WI predicted six more weeks of winter.
Jimmy the Groundhog of Sun Prairie, WI predicted six more weeks of winter.
There was no accessible report from Bowman Bill of Winchester, VA at time of publication. (I found reports that he would make a prediction, but no reports of his prediction.)
And General Beauregard Lee of Lilburn, GA predicted an early spring.
So the over-all score stands:
Early Spring - 11
Six More Weeks Of Winter - 6
No Show - 2
...and the North American majority opinion is an early spring.
(The Canadian majority opinion is an early spring; 6/1.)
And that's your Groundhog Prognostications for another year.
