So, call me young and naive, but until tonight I had no idea what a b-girl was. For those of you who are like me (or aren't american), a b-girl is an american term for a bar 'hostess' whose job it is to get male clients to buy themselves and the hostess drinks. Of course, the b-girl is usually drinking ice tea at premium whiskey costs, but that's the way the game works.

One thing I find incredibly interesting is that the little information I could find online points to the fact that successful b-girls weren't vamps. They often underdressed to create an out-of-place persona to fool male clients into becoming interested in them and, thusly, buying drinks to keep her around (and buying one for himself in the process). I guess after the war they were quite a problem as many a soldier or sailor found himself suitably fleeced by these women, whose profits depended on a percentage of the drinks these guys bought.
