The Chase

He tripped over a rock. It was over, they were sure to catch him now. He just stayed motionless on the ground. he already gave up before they even caught him. He heard their footsteps as they came closer. But suddenly he realized how lucky he was! When he fell, he landed in thick bushes. They swiftly ran past the bushes. He had gone by unseen. He waited until he could no longer hear them before climbing out of the bushes. Brushing off the dirt and leaves, He quickly started walking to school. He soon heard them coming back. They must have spotted him! Looufa began to run. Once he got to class they wouldn't be able to touch him. He could see the school now. It was only a matter of seconds before he would be running through the doors, looking back to see them, defeated. It would be invigorating to know that at least once, he was able to get away from them.
With a quick glance back, he noticed they had stopped running after him. He paused for a moment to catch his breath. Looufa was the type that was never really liked much by others. He was always picked on and never had many friends. His day would always begin with him stepping outside of his home and quickly being spotted by the town bullies. They usually would chase him, and when he was caught he would get swirlies or wedgies. But today seemed to be his lucky day. They must have stopped running after him or maybe they just got tired of picking on him. It didn't really matter. All that mattered was that he was about to get to school without getting beat up. He felt a rush of adarenaline as he quickly pushed through the doors. "Hey what are you doing in here?!" Looufa turned to see a custodian running after him with a broom. His hopes sank. He slowly looked outside and saw the bullies waiting for him. He didn't understand, he had made it this far and now a custodian was going to change everything. The custodian quickly grabbed him and threw him outside. "Why does he always try to get inside?" the custodian yelled as he closed the door behind him. It wasn't fair. And it was true, this wouldn't be fair for a kid who tried so hard to go to school. But it was fair, for Looufa was only a dog. And the bullies were merely street dogs that enjoyed a good chase in the morning.
