Tumblr friends? Would it be worth relocating over to Tumblr for most of my posts and the like? I sort of feel that LJ was awesome when I signed up on it ten years ago, but it's aged poorly with the rest of the social networking sites that the internet has to offer.
I mean, with tumblr, I could be looking at pictures of Disney Princesses with empty frame glasses saying hipster things. Like I could take a picture of Belle from Beauty and the Beast and give her some hipster glasses and have her say something like "Going to ride my fixie to the farmers market". It could be amazing if I was on tumbler. It really could be.
...But wanna have tumblr friends if I go on tumblr.
In other changes, there have not been many changes. I'm slowly trying to leave my Puppies and Reptile job, but as much as I love Mad Science, I just can't financially work only there. At least not yet. I think in a few months, if I can have a savings account that's not laughable, and pay off more of my student loan,(I paid off my credit card this month. yay) working exclusively at Mad Science sounds reasonable.
My plan so far, (because I always need to have a plan, like some sort of cylon) is to work only weekends at Pups and Reps, work the summer camp at Mad Science, and then go back to school.
I fucking love working with animals and kids. I really do, and I think this is something I want to make a real career out of. But the more I look into it, the more I realize that a lack of higher education is that field is holding me back from a job that I'm otherwise 100% qualified for.
So in the next month or two, I'm going to get my transcripts from Santa Monica Community College and from Los Angeles City College and meet up with a counselor and basically say "So what do I need to take to transfer to UC or CS and get a BS in Biology?"
Which horrifies me because I've spent most of my adult life telling myself that I was "bad" at math and science, and now I really wanna bunker down and prove to myself that I'm not.
In less going back to school news,
COSTUMES!
Costumes for 2011
Fanime. I was inspired by
moonsheen and
lacunarity 's idea to go as human variations of Twilight and Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic at Anime Boston. It just sounded so low-key, but extremely clever. So I convinced
motorbike to go as Applejack and myself as Rarity for Fanime.
Rarity's costume is coming together nicely, I finally found a really nice white (well cream) dress, some purple leggings and some sexy shoes. All that's left is finding some costume jewelry to accessorize with and to find a wig. I talked to the nice korean ladies at the wig shop I get all my stuff from and they said that they could order me a wig and style it.
Anime Expo. Tales of Vesperia.
motorbike and
crackjaw costumes (Estelle and Rita) are done. I'm going as Judith, but I gotta hold off on that until the Otakon costumes are done. Which leads to....
Otakon. The Vision of Escaflowne, which I think is going to rock. It's such a classic anime with some bitchin' costumes. I've finished
spacetart's Dryden costume and I'm halfway through the costumes for me and
motorbike (We're going as Naria and Eria, the leotards are coming along nicely and are mostly done. After that, it's just finding wigs, gloves, leggings, ears and finishing up the boot covers. I REALLY want to have these done by the end of the month.
The FUTURE
There's always new things I wanna do. I've wanted to venture into some American Comic Book stuff. (Namely Rogue's most recent costume from X-men.), and my major Mass Effect kick has made me pretty interested in figuring out how I could make Tali's costume. I'd also like to get into more historical things. But we shall see.
And because you've all been so nice to read this. I have a meme for you!
Give me a letter and I will tell you a character I love whose name starts with that letter and a brief explanation why.
