CHALLENGE: wk 24 - profile

Jul 03, 2006 16:03

I've been a mess lately, and I really do apologize. Some of you may know that I'm looking for a position as an English teacher for the fall, and it's not going well. So I've been quite...unhappy...the last several weeks. I'm really sorry to have been flaking out on the comm. I hope that you're all still with us, and maybe some new faces will join in.

All your entries must conform to the theme. At least one must conform also to one of the interpretations.

CHALLENGE
profile
This doesn't necessarily apply to a character's face. You can use just a body shot, if the camera angle is from the side. It must be a profile shot, however, not three-quarters or behind.

INTERPRETATIONS
Word: silhouette
And overhead the curlews cry,
Where through the dusky upland grass
The young brown-throated reapers pass,
Like silhouettes against the sky.
(Oscar Wilde)

You may use the word "silhouette" on your icon, any variation, any definition. You may use phrases that allude to silhouettes or profiles, but if it's not clear how the icon refers to silhouettes, please explain in your submission comment.

Lyric: Behind the cut are the lyrics to a song that you may use. You must have three consecutive words from the song on your icon, and at least one must be legible.

Solitude stands by the window
She turns her head as I walk in the room
I can see by her eyes she's been waiting
Standing in the slant of the late afternoon

And she turns to me with her hand extended
Her palm is split with a flower with a flame

Solitude stands in the doorway
And I'm struck once again by her black silhouette
By her long cool stare and her silence
I suddenly remember each time we've met

And she turns to me with her hand extended
Her palm is split with a flower with a flame

And she says "I've come to set a twisted thing straight"
And she says "I've come to lighten this dark heart"
And she takes my wrist, I feel her imprint of fear
And I say "I've never thought of finding you here"

I turn to the crowd as they're watching
They're sitting all together in the dark in the warm
I wanted to be in there among them
I see how their eyes are gathered into one

And then she turns to me with her hand extended
Her palm is split with a flower with a flame

And she says "I've come to set a twisted thing straight"
And she says"l've come to lighten this dark heart"
And she takes my wrist, I feel her imprint of fear
And I say "I've never thought of finding you here"

Solitude stands in the doorway
And I'm struck once again by her black silhouette
By her long cool stare and her silence
I suddenly remember each time we've met

And she turns to me with her hand extended
Her palm is split with a flower with a flame
