Yuletide!
Happy holidays, or whatever you're up to today. ♥
For yuletide I received the most beautiful, amazing, Friday Night Lights story, about Jess Merriweather and football, All About Me:
When Jess was a little girl, she used to lie on the grass in the yard and pretend she was in a stadium, that she'd just gotten tackled, but that she'd gotten rid of the ball first. That she'd just made a winning touchdown and fallen down in relief and joy. That she was somewhere, under bright lights, with a crowd cheering, because she'd just won everything for everyone.
When she got older, she stopped pretending that, but she didn't stop feeling at peace when she was lying on the grass. At home in a way she didn't anywhere else.
The Jess character study, and the perspective on characters like Coach and Vince and life in Dillon, is vivid and real and it made me love Jess even more than I already did. FNL is a show that keeps adding new characters, and I think, well, I'll never love the new ones like I loved the originals, and then they keep introducing new characters that steal my heart. (They also tend to stealthily and gradually transform older characters, who were always well written but more difficult, until I'm blinking and wondering wait, when did that character make me cry, when did they get this awesome? FNL, man. <3)
I've posted 3 fics of 1,000+ words each to yuletide so far, my main assignment and 2 treats. It would be neat if I could manage a few madness ficlets today in between doing family stuff and mooching around and being lazy in my pajamas opening presents and watching movies and reading yuletide fic.
Tonight the Doctor Who Christmas special airs. I believe this is the first time it's airing the same day in the US as it airs in the UK. ELEVENTH DOCTOR! AMY! RORY! ON MY TV!
