What a terrific story! I really loved their interactions in this one, all the things unspoken. And I'm so tired right now, I'm feeling great sympathy for sleepy!Sammy. So you think they'd take me along on shore leave? (Nashville, hee!)

Very fun! Thanks for sharing!

Nashville just popped out. They were in that general area of the country, I picked TN at random and then Nashville; a second later I realized what I'd done. "Oh right! Winchestercon is in NASHVILLE." Oh, my brain knew exactly what it was doing there. *g*

Thank you, I'm really glad you liked this :D

#19 I would like to see more gen fiction. I'd like to see a crisis like Home or Asylum or the aftermath of Shadow done without any Wincest at all -- just to see how the boys work out their problems without any nookie. Or not even one of those Big Crises(tm), but a random having-problems-getting-along story, resolved with work and love of the Platonic sort.

Oh my dear and fluffy lord YES! This was EXACTLY the sort of thing I had in mind, and this is absolutely brilliant. No easy answers, no big confrontations -- they go forward, they bicker, they work, they learn, and they go on. Yes, yes, YES. Sam confounded by doubt and anxiety, Dean mustering on even through his own similar feelings, eyes on the prize, faith always, always, in his brother above all others. *nodnodNOD*

Thank you so much for this -- so deeply satisfying on SO many levels.

Oh, *GLEE* It means a lot to me that you liked this. Your prompt was open-ended so there was a week or so of me going hmmm...what would cause a crisis...but not one that would be the end of the world. And I'd always wondered about the sleep dep thing, and what would have happened if Sam had fallen asleep *during a hunt*. I'm sure there's been fic that's already done that somewhere, but I haven't seen it a lot.

I do love it when the boys *can't* talk about it, but the problem's a big elephant sitting in the back seat of the impala they try to ignore, and then they each do manage to say close to what they really feel.

(I think they didn't bicker enough in this. Possibly.)

I'm so glad all the things you mentioned got across, thanks for the lovely feedback :D

This story is incredibly satisfying, because it works through so much in such a short space. You did an incredible job here.

Aww, thanks for your help with it. I appreciate hearing your comments on this and very pleased you liked it. :)

(and I'm going to answer your question about my response to Sunshine State. I haven't read the last part yet, but that shouldn't matter.)

That was wonderful! The reprecussions of Sam's nightmares and sleeplessness were very believably worked out. I loved Sam grounding himself, and Dean declaring shore leave at the end, and little subtle touches like the flash of fear in Dean's eyes when Sam says he's "made a decision." Great portrayal of the boys and how they get through the days.

Since this is fairly early in season 1, I tried to keep things oblique about the nightmare, part of how they're still uncertain of each other. If this were set after "Home" Sam would have recognized the nightmare for what it was and told Dean right out what he saw. I'm glad you liked that moment with Dean. He really does fear Sam's going to try and leave, and he's relieved with instead Sam suggests something sensible like down time (and still, Dean doesn't quite approve).

Thanks! I'm pleased you enjoyed this! :)
